I pit this sickeningly irresponsible so-called 'Mother'

Here’s a story from today’s BBC News. Christiana Ribas, aged 28, left her 18 month old baby locked in her car so that she could go night-clubbing. It was freezing cold, and the baby had nothing to eat or drink. When Ribas returned she was drunk and couldn’t drive. It also turned out she had no licence or insurance (both legal requirements here in the UK).

And for this she gets… 3 months in jail.

When society can churn out people lke this, so monumentally and inconceivably irresponsible, so inhumane, so monstrously selfish, so self-evidently devoid of any shred of intelligence or ability to function as an adult, let alone as a ‘Mother’, it really does make you think there are serious and fundamental issues that we’re just not tackling.

And what’s with the 3 months jail? For all she knew or cared, the child could have frozen to death. Drunk and trying to drive her car, she could have easily caused a serious or even fatal accident, and any victim would have been left without a claim as she hadn’t any insurance.

Let her rot in jail. She’s done all she can to prove to the rest of us that she isn’t prepared to play any useful role in society, or to accept any of the normal social codes of adult responsible behaviour. And my heart goes out to the child.

Let’s not and say we did.

I try not to lift up my self-esteem by depriving forgiveness from others.*

That said, she did a bad thing. I hope she’s sorry and that the time she spends in jail changes her into a better person.
[sub]*Apologies for the snark. I’m just kinda tired of all the Crime-of-the-Day rants.[/sub]

Thats terrible, but if nothing actually happened to the baby then 3 months actually seems kinda excessive. The kid should be taken away of course, but you shouldn’t punish people for “what might have happened”.

I disagree. Children are precious and some people don’t get it. Don’t become a parent if you cannot be responsible. That said, I realize that accidents happen, no birth control is 100% effective. I just feel that if you bring a child into the world, you had better do your utmost to make sure you raise the baby in love and safety. She was completely selfish and I think, cruel. Darn, you have no babysitter… well, crap. Do you still go out clubbing or do you do the right thing and stay home? It seems an easy enough answer to me. And then, the woman was drunk and trying to drive home without insurance or even a DAMN licence. I can’t find a shred of love in the situation. Priorities, people. I don’t think it’s too much to ask that a parent chooses their child over a night out. Think of all the people who can’t have children of their own and desperately want one (or more), and then you hear about people like her. She makes me sick.
