I pit those who rush to get in the train car

Pfft, if the transit cops would just let me sit on top of the train like I want to, I wouldn’t have to rush my way in.

why u so… no enter and exit on opposite sides?

The short answer is Money. Vast piles of it. Rebuilding subway stations to allow boarding from both sides is brutally expensive.

They actually are toying with that idea in San Francisco for two of the busiest stations in the BART system. At Embarcadero and Montgomery, the concept is to drill two stub tunnels parallel to the existing station so they can have a platform on each side of the train. Currently, there’s one central platform between the two tracks, and at rush hour, well, if you look up “jam-packed” in the dictionary, you may see a photo of this platform. It’s not exactly rare for the platform to get so full that they shut down the downward escalators so they don’t just keep mechanically cramming more people down there.

I think this can only end in tears as trains often get kicked over to a different track to get around trains that broke down. Passengers on the new outside platforms will be stranded with no way to get across other than hoping to sprint up to the concourse and back down.
