I pitt D'Anconia

Not time zone confusion. I sillily read the date as February 8, not February 9. Dammit.

Is octopus still around? My money is on @octopus .

Now you’ve done it. Did you learn nothing from Beetlejuice?

I was thinking the same thing.

This hive mind sure is handy.

Yeah I’m here. If he were banned I wouldn’t argue he was banned because of his views or his posts. Sometimes the overly tightly wound become disproportionately influential.

Does the fact that you have practically no influence at all here imply that you are very loosely wound?

Few plushies are tightly wound.

(checks again that this IS the Pit)

Y’all just CANNOT fuckin’ resist, can ya?

Low-grade, and low-quality.

When someone gets banned, I often think “Well, they were asking for it, but I will miss their (advice on bourbon/vintage cars/roadkill recipes)…”

In this case, I can’t think of anything actually positive or helpful.

Yup. I’d almost like to add to the “Don’t be a jerk” rule: don’t be a drag. If someone only comes to the board to fingerwag and carp and annoy other folks, they’re being a drag and should be shown the door. If you wanna stay around, you gotta make an effort to be interesting and to contribute positively in some way.

I don’t care if that just means you’re the board’s expert on Pokemon collectibles, or on busing tables at restaurants, or you’re the person who posts pictures of squirrels, or you always pop into MPSIMS to check on people: find something you can do to make folks glad you’re here, or go away.

Back when I was an administrator on Wikipedia, when I ran across a disruptive editor who had repeatedly violated policies, one question I’d ask myself was, “Is this person a net positive?” For example, if they fixed a lot of problems in articles, or added quality content, or was a helpful participant in discussions, then I might instead reach out directly and try to convince them to stop their destructive behavior.

If they were there solely (or almost solely) to vandalize, argue, insult, push a biased point of view, or anything else harmful to the project then I’d just indefinitely block them and be done with it.

I’ve always thought that it was important to consider what is in the best interest of the community when making a decision like that. And someone who doesn’t ever add anything good is an easy call when they cause problems.

The problem is at this point “Troll the Libs” is a core tenet of conservatism. Anyone truly dedicated to the conservative cause is compelled to violate the rules of this message board.

Did I miss something? Earlier today it looked like his suspension had ended and he was able to post again. Now the word SUSPENDED is under his name and when I look at his profile it says he’s now suspended until Feb 10 @ 9:21pm. I don’t see any new posts and there isn’t an announcement that I can find.

No announcement yet. We are still discussing his posting privileges in the modloop and added 1 more day to his suspension for the moment. Sometimes we’re slow, but better slow than shooting from the hip I think.

Just a reminder, once you are suspended for something, it is up to you to stop that behavior when you come back. So this is a pretty serious discussion currently.

If he is either suspended for an extended time or banned, there will be a formal announcement in ATMB.

The mills of the mods grind slowly, but they grind exceeding fine.

All I have to do to alleviate the suspense for myself is glance at this thread in the Pit forum to see if it’s been closed yet.

“How’s your grinding?”

“Fine.”

I cringe at giving jerks chance after chance, but I do think reinstating him would be entertaining:

“Ok, D’anc, you can post, but the very first time you act like a jer… oops, there it is: your first post back! Where’s that hammer?”

Closed as user has been banned and that is our general policy.
