These kinds of swipes happen all day long about Trump, MTG, etc. I’m not saying they don’t deserve it more (they do), but are those attempts to rile the conservatives here?
OK, that’s all the defending of this guy I’m going to do. I think he’s a terrible poster who adds nothing of value to the board.
The thread had a very narrow purpose - a real-time discussion of the content of the SotU.
Imagine a different scenario: a member of the hive-mind in good standing (as opposed to an oppressed conservative) brought up the Bono thing. Since this poster is part of the anti-conservative conspiracy on the board, there’s no avalanche of warnings to force the mods into action.
A robust discussion about the politics and perceptions of guests-as-props ensues. Still a hijack. Still making it harder to discuss the SotU.
No, those are actual reactions to things actually done and words actually said, reactions that would happen even if we knew that no conservatives would hear us.

Yes they do and in breaking news type threads (such as the SOTU one) they are always shut down. Someone who constantly does those sort of hijacks are noted, warned and eventually asked to leave the thread. Anyone who does that multiple times in multiple threads will be banned, even if it’s always about Trump.
This wasn’t an MPSIMS Breaking News thread where political swipes are disallowed. It was in P&E, where swipes against Republicans happen all day long and twice on Sunday, in ways totally unrelated to the thread.
What differentiates a “swipe” and a comment about something political a politician did or said? Where is the line that makes something a swipe? I can’t imagine a political message board where criticizing politicians or their policies is not allowed. What would that even look like?

But criticizing politicians on their policies is different from making random swipes about their age or voice. (Both of which happened without incident in that thread.)
The issue was not that he asked about Bono, but that he wouldn’t drop the subject, even though it was clearly only adjacent to the main topic, of what happened at the SOTU address. So, “Bono was there, I don’t think he should have been, he’s just a celebrity” would have been fine. But four posts about it was really more than anyone wanted.
He even admitted that he got a good answer (something about Bono’s humanitarian work), but kept at it.
Is it your contention, then, that these are not the same thing?

D’A is still listed as being suspended until a certain time, said time already past. Let me venture a WAG and say that the mod loop is still contemplating a longer suspension or, dare I say it, dropping the ban-hammer.
If so, who do you think will post the inevitable “He was banned for having conservative opinions!!”?
I think there’s some time zone confusion here. The time is not yet past – the suspension ends sometime after 1:00 AM EST which is almost four hours from now. Not that I really give a shit what happens to D’Asshole one way or another.
