I really need to pay more attention to things

I just gave a $100 donation to our organization for someone I don’t know, who isn’t here with us (as another location) and had I REALIZED the point of the fund raiser was her well-being I would have likely limited my donation to $10 or $20.

We had a BBQ last month to raise funds for our Xmas party … we came up short of our goal ($200 short) and I THOUGHT this morning’s fundraiser was for the Xmas party. So I, in a VERY sly manner, slipped the $100 into the box where the money was kept making sure no one saw me do it. With a self-satisfied look on my face drank a cup of coffee and made small talk …

Then when I asked the person in charge how we were looking for the Xmas party now and I got the ‘what are you talking about’ look and was told THAT fund raiser is next week and this one is for the Lady in Belgium who is sick.

Regardless we will NOT be sharing this bit of charity with the wife tonight at dinner.

I’m just laughing … I wouldn’t feel like such a dork if I KNEW the person in question but I’ve met her ONCE for like two seconds … Now I have to put ANOTHER $100 in the kitty next week … yeesh …

Well, if the lady is seriously ill, she probably needs all the help she can get and will be thrilled to receive such a large gift…and isn’t giving to others part of The Real Meaning of Christmas?

Yeah I know … it was a GOOD thing at the end of the day.

I’m likely still going to donate $100 at the Xmas party fund raiser so my ‘generostiy’ ended up costing me $200 vice my originally planned $100 all because I was in too much of a hurry to actually READ the email regarind the purpose of the event.

OTOH I guess my lack of attention to detail could have led me to walk infront of a bus or something …
