I resolve to start the new MMP

One of my pet peeves, right up there with the use of “I” as the object of a preposition. If you feel badly, you are having tactile difficulties – badly is an adverb describing the manner in which you are performing the action of feeling. If you are uncomfortable about a situation, or sick, you feel bad – bad is an adjective describing your emotions or physical condition.

Rain was enough to clear the areas we had shoveled by the time I got up, and got rid of most of the snow on my car. Currently 45 ferrets/7 centipedes outside, and very foggy; most of the snow on the grass has now disappeared, and it’s supposed to start raining again soon. Tonight’s low 24 and tomorrow’s high 31, so presumably lots of ice on the streets when Lady SCAdian goes to her doctor’s appointment tomorrow. :frowning:

Guess I’ll have to get hold of a time machine and go back to the 1880s if I want to experience a real New England winter like the ones I used to read about when I was a kid.

Why do cats seem to believe that humans shouldn’t be allowed in the loo without a feline escort? Not to mention their slow ambling and frequent stops right in front of me when I’m trying to get to said room in the first place.

RDOS continues apace, though I’ll have to get dressed again so I can get to the pharmacy this afternoon to pick up my refills – which will probably be the height of my activities this week.

The Senior Clerk took the day off, so I was on the200 Slide. Except when I was loading, because there was more volume then they thought. And even more fun, a bunch of ad/cuts(furniture that had to go from the 200 to Blue 134, a bag of No Saturday Service stuff that had to be scanned(at 0800). Plus helping a driver load a bulk load of Vucan cartridges, which was apparently tattoo supplies, and not someone planning on making a live fire remake of The Wild Bunch. I did my Aldi run, and hit total wine for some vermouth, and a six pack of Coffee Is For Closers

To crush my enemies, see them driven before me, and hear the lamentation of their women.
Oh wait, that’s Conan’s. I don’t make them, because I don’t want to se the bar too high for the coming year.
But feel better!

About the same here., although it’s currently 64 degrees Ferret Height out.

I made the executive decision to go to the playground ahead of the rain, so the kids got to play there about an hour. Long enough for Roxy to make friends with other kids. I walked Otis around the perimeter while they played - they’re old enough that I didn’t have to follow them around. Then we came home and had lunch. Tobias is playing on the piano and Roxy found my recorder (a wooden one, not the cheap plastic.) So I guess I’m in for a musical afternoon.

I yanked a Polish sausage out of the freezer - not sure what sides I’ll make, but I’m sure I’ll figure something out. The spawn just went downstairs so I’ll go light a fire for them. Then maybe I can chill for a bit. Maybe.

Afternoon all. Shopping done, sammich eaten, and will shortly (sometime between 15 minutes and 2 hours) head over to the gym for some sweating. It’s a pretty day outside, as long as you don’t go out and find how cool and windy it is. Will continue my slothage and see what the gym scales say of my Holiday indulgences and what penance I will have to perform to get my weight back where I want it.

Taters, don’t remember having a special New Years Day meal when I was young and certainly nothing special lately. Maybe an extra Chee-burger if the scales are not to discouraging today…

Amen. As I said before, the three scariest words in the English language are “wind chill factor”.

Hippie, glad the electric folks were on the ball and you’re hopefully warming back up nicely.

Maus, I think that’s the inside of a computer (or perhaps a fusion generator…and I now see it’s for an electric car). Hope things work out without undue cost.

FCM, think you made a good call on the outdoors, sounds like the kids are enjoying themselves (you…maybe).

Somehow I think you can manage that… :people_hugging:

JtC, glad Hubs is doing better, and you are doing good for people you don’t know but who need the help…have I mentioned recently how proud I am to know you? And will glue/duck tape solve the litter-robot problem?

And onward into the unknown…or at least the Monday afternoon.

I just did 30 minutes on the stationary bike. Mrs. Nott decided not to go out in the awful weather just for a haircut.

Maus_Magill, condolences for your charger. Getting rid of dead electronic gear presents a quandary. Simply pitch it, where it will end up in the landfill, or go to the trouble of recycling it? It’s more hassle to recycle it, and in many places, you actually have to pay to do the “right” thing. If you recycle, it might go to some far-off e-cycle yard where child labor breathes the fumes from melting lead and plastic.

Gosh, that was cheerful.

johnny_la, loved the church story. someone is worthy of thor’s hammer!
jtc, oh no! not the litter robot.

once again looking forward to 2 days off this week. then 3 days off next week.

today is drippy. the bottom of my jeans must have wicked up every puddle i passed. it has been a morning, stop at eye glass place, pick up glasses (crazy clear focus!), then foot doctor, then office. get the day started, then over to get allergy shots. the steady rain started between the foot doctor and office. it slowed up between allergy shots and deposit. i should have thought to wear wellies.
they are setting up for the mummer’s parade on jan 1st. this is creating a bit of a traffic snarl around the centre of the city. the shuttle had to detour this morning. of course, it would be the day i needed to cross to the other side of broad. thankfully this parade does not go near the art museum area.

we should drop about 30 degrees today.

It is a New Year’s Eve tradition here, to participate in the Ring of Fire and Hope. Although there will be free flares available tomorrow and Wednesday, there are often lines and the flares run out; so I went down to the corner market and bought two, 20-minute flares.

December was … much. Between the first and Christmas Day I had I don’t know how many rehearsals, and ten concerts. Add in midnight Mass (10pm call, 11:15 choral preludes, out around 1:30 and in bed around 2). Up again at 6:30 to finish packing and get stuff in the car for our pilgrimage to Vermont for family, which started after Christmas Day Mass, so we were on the road much later than usual. Snowy drive on Friday. But all is well in Vermont.

Also in December: my wife had a procedure which led to a diagnosis that will probably result in surgery sometime early next year. Nothing life-shattering, but will take some recovery time. She also spent a morning in the ER with high blood pressure. And my FIL had a TIA. He’s fine, but that just piled on.

I don’t know that I really have resolutions. There’s all the “eat healthier!” “get fit!” “spend less!” stuff that will last the first two weeks of January. Nothing creative.

Is it truly Monday? I am lost in the sauce of time that happens between Christmas and New Year.

My new years resolution - eat out less and cook more. And no qualifiers around that, so if I eat out even one less meal 2026 vs 2025, it’s a win!

I’ve been on the phone calling insurance companies to get quotes on homeowners insurance. Not only is this far more difficult and painful than it should be, holy @&#$ these quotes are insane. Everything from $2k to $6k (which also had the worst coverage and highest deductibles). I’ve been a renter for the last five years and am gobsmacked - I knew insurance prices went up, but this is crazy! So I am taking a break from this headache-inducing task and hanging with you fine folk for a bit instead.

boofae thanks for the explanation about the cab fares in last week’s thread. For some reason, I feel like I’ve heard the opposite advice (in that cabbies will run up meter fares unnecessarily) but that may have been location or situation specific. Also, good luck on the job posting! Is it as your same university?

hippie that’s starting to get awfully cold inside… hope you warm up quick.

flyboy that Ring of Fire and Hope looks really neat!!

fachverwirrt I’m sorry that sounds like a lot to be dealing with on the health front. I hope your wife’s surgery goes well and recovery is quick.

It’s a nice tradition. Per the page, it’s ‘On the shores of Birch Bay from the Village to the State Park.’

There are a couple of videos on the page. The one from 2024 has some nice aerial views. (And being New Year’s Eve, some people are launching their fireworks early.)

I don’t do resolutions. I issue orders: Body, you WILL stop hurting so much. Fuchsia, you WILL keep blooming. Nothing ever listens to me, but I savor the illusion of control.

The wind doesn’t bother me, probably due to all those years in Wyoming. Many times, we had winds that gusted over 80 mph. Once a nearby town recorded winds of over 110 mph. OK, I lied. It bothered me that in the 1 minute walk between my car and the school doors, my hair went from tamed to looking like a cat with static cling. It also bothered me when I couldn’t get my car door open against the wind, or worse, when I got it open, swung one leg out, and then the wind slammed it shut.

Household chores today. Next up: organizing Box Springs. I save all my boxes for my friend with an Etsy business, and they’ve taken over the fold-out sofa.

I walked Charlie yesterday. I momentarily forgot and said, “Good boy.” So then he turned to stare meaningfully at the doggie bag (the shoulder bag where I keep the Good Boy Treats). I didn’t forget again, so maybe you CAN teach an old human new tricks! When I got home, I iced my back.

flyboy, I went to the website and wow, that looks gorgeous! It’s a nice way to get neighbors together, too, I bet.

Every time I taught that, I’d tell the old chestnut that goes

“My dog has no nose.”
“Oh, my! How does he smell?”
“Terrible.”

The arrest made me angry. This saddens me. I’d go with you if I lived in that neck of the woods.

Aww. They must have been awake and conversing about this.

That’s the very best way to make resolutions. In fact, that should BE your resolution! “I resolve to stay snuggled under the covers more.”

My pastor took me to urgent care. I am not good in wind, 5’10" and 145 lbs. Thought I might have a uti.
Nope. Just sometimes it feels heavy down there. Dysuria?
So only 2 uti’s this year! Am doing good.
Tomorrow I go to the dermatologist.

So we have a big event at the museum tomorrow, the local PBS station is coming with a new costume character to do weather related things. Naturally today 2 of our exhibits in the weather room started acting up. I think we got them beaten into submission. :crossed_fingers: Plus I’ll be installing the rest of the mural on the side of the new reef tank. Then maybe I can get back to working on our big grant job.

Ms Peach has lost her Kong. I think she’ll survive, she only has a brazillion other toys to play with.
