I shaved my head today. Feels weird.

Now I have “phantom hair” feelings. It’s quite odd.

Good luck with your new aerodynamic look!

As for me, I’ve had my head shaved. Once. NEVER AGAIN.

It was my sophomore year in college and we were all drunk. One of my good buddies had a buzz; in a drunken euphoria I told him to shave my head.

There’s a really lovely picture of me, sitting in the dorm bathroom, clearly drunk (eyes half-open, mouth agape) with my friend halfway through shaving me bald.

It looked terrible when finished. Some guys have the right kind of head to look cool with no hair. See: Bruce Willis. Me, I looked like that poor bastard that snapped and killed his drill sergeant in Full Metal Jacket.

I haven’t started going bald yet (31), and my dad only just started getting a bare patch on his head, so I’m hopeful. But I honestly have had nightmares about going bald, and I have no idea what I’ll do if it starts. Like I said, plenty of guys look cool bald; I’m just not one of them. At this point I’m thinking I’d have to go to hats for life.

Heh, people have been calling me Private Pyle as well.

During chemo, I had my husband shave me bald after my hair starting coming out in clumps. He has some vibrating razor thingie, which made my scalp quite weird feeling for a while. And even though I was bald for about six months, my scalp was never shiny, like bald guys. What is the shiny secret?

Yeah, you’ll have that for a couple of months. I had hair down to my ass before I started shaving my head, and for a couple months I would find myself tossing my head to get the now nonexistent hair out of my eyes, or reaching up to do the same with my hand.

I’ve been shaving my head for something like 23 years now, and frankly, the amount of heat that hair traps is enough to make me never want hair on my head again. In fact, as I’ve said several times on these boards, if I was offered a pill that would make all my hair fall out and never grow back, I’d take it before the offer could be retracted.

Grats on joining the Bald Brotherhood!*

*(If enough women join, we can start calling it the Smooth Society or something, k?)

I have an oily scalp, which shines naturally. I wipe my head periodically throughout the day with witch hazel to keep the glare down.

There are also products sold to create shine. Never tried them, but I suppose if you have dry skin they would help.

Be sensible and wear a hat instead. It’s cheaper, looks better, and is safer.
