I skated the North Shore Inline Marathon in 1:46:00

It seems my recent threads vanished in this weeks debacle, so, if anybody cares, let’s try again!
I skated my 7th consecutive North Shore Inline Marathon last Saturday in 1 hour 46 minutes. My third best time ever.

Are there any other Dopers who’ve skated this event? Or planning to next year?

Or any various discussion of inline skating?

Sorry RAWDuke, but the closest I can come to your request is to say that I ran the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon in June. On the same course, I’m guessing. I’m doing my first marathon – Grandma’s – there next June.

Congrats on your race, brutha!

It’s mostly the same course, except at the top of Lemon Drop Hill we turn left and skate down the freeway.
Pretty cool, especially when you see the traffic jam in the other lane, cuz of US!!!

So, having run a marathon but never skated one, is that time relatively fast?

How fast is the fastest dude skating?

I think we’ve got an event like that here up in Long Beach. That’s the only one I’ve heard of around SoCal. Are they becoming more common?

Well, my time is relatively middle of the road (so to speak!)
The fastest time this year was 1:08 and some seconds. I think there were about 10 skaters within seconds of each other.

The record was in '98. There was a wonderful tail wind. The winner was 57 minutes and change, and again there was a pack at the finish line. That’s an AVERAGE of about 30 MPH over the 26.2 mile marathon.

There is an event coming up in Long Beach. Some one of these years I’ll hit that one. I’m planning on doing the Tuscon Marathon next year ('03)

These events are becoming more common. There are at least 6 marathon or half-marathon events within an easy days drive of where I live, and a couple of charity “pledge” events as well. I’m hoping to enter all of them next year. I managed 4 of them this year.
