No jokes to add, but they may also check your testosterone level - which is a blood draw test.
Nitpick: Cialis is the brand name of the generic tadalafil. Viagra is the brand name (much more expensive in both cases) of the generic sildenafil.
From GoodRx.com:
… Sildenafil (Viagra) is by far the most affordable medication for ED and the one with the longest safety record. It’s good for occasional use, but be sure to take it on an empty stomach. Tadalafil (Cialis) lasts longer, making it useful if you have a more active and regular sex life. You can take it with or without a meal.
…Stendra is the newest ED medication. It has the fastest onset, and you can take it with or without food. But it’s currently only available as a brand medication. Many people alternate between ED medications, depending on their individual needs.
… * Save with GoodRx. GoodRx can help you save over 80% off the average retail price of the generic versions. Generic sildenafil at certain pharmacies is as low as $11.17 with a free GoodRx discount. You can also find generic tadalafil and vardenafil for as low as $12.52 and $33.27, respectively. What’s more, you can find brand-name Stendra for as low as $401.14.
Keep in mind that ED can be one of the first symptoms of heart disease. Poor circulation, don’tcha know. I hope your doc addresses that subject.
And testosterone is a big deal. I was down to 150. Normal is 300-1100 (units/per). GP was completely befuddled. On the advice a doc friend I went to a naturopath. Not my usual choice, but it’s pretty much what she does. She doesn’t push much woo.
I prefer Cialis as well and don’t get the headache with it. I get the generic from a legit Canadian pharmacy for a much cheaper price than I can get here. Since it’s a legal gray area, PM me for the name of the pharmacy.
Cheers, indeed.
That’s what I said. Cialis AKA the same med as the generic known as tadalafil. Although my shorthand probably fooled some folks.
IMO/IME the difference is sildenafil = Viagra is a fast acting short term med. The effect peaks in 20-30 minutes and is absolutely gone 15 minutes later. If you miss it, you miss it. Too bad so sad.
By contrast tadalafil = Cialis is a chronic med. Take it every day and after a few days tops your capability simply returns to whatever it was 15+ years ago. No worries, no fuss, no time constraints. Just ready whenever however all day every day.
If I worked in porn sildenafil would be darn handy for a quick pick-me-up. For Regular Guy life, it’s tadalafil for the win.
As Dow used to have it: Better living through Chemistry!

No jokes to add, but they may also check your testosterone level - which is a blood draw test.
It’s two, IME, a week apart. Both at the time of day.

It’s traditional and part of the palliative process.
That’s really it; by joking around about it, it’s a way (albeit a bit perverse) of mitigating the worry and seriousness.
Basically if people are joking, it can’t be that bad. It’s when they don’t joke that you need to be concerned.
I tried to be serious about it. Just the facts of my lived experience told in laymen’s terms.
But I can’t resist a good double entendre here and there. I consider them treats I leave for the careful reader. Gets folks to pay more attention then rewards them for it.
Kinda like that annoying girl in high school who spoke so softly you had to lean in and listen carefully to hear her. I think her name was Karen, but I’m not sure.

They’re expensive and I dont buy them anymore.
You can try Mark Cuban’s Cost Plus Drugs, they sell both types of ED medication cheap, 30 pills for $5.
“Urology department, can you hold?”
I just looked at Mark Cuban’s website! My God! He needs to also do medical coverage!
Unbelievable!

My research tells me that my Canadian pharmacy does have generic Stendra. It’s call Avanafil.

That’s good news! Should make it much cheaper.
At GoodRx 6 avanafil tablets are $384. Yikes
$20 for 100 in Canada for the generic.

I would imagine if you can’t attest to nighttime erections, they’ll want to have you do a sleepover where you’ll be monitored, then go from there.
Shouldn’t need to do a sleepover. 20+ years ago I had a “nocturnal penile plethysmograph” test. It was a small battery powered module that strapped to my thigh, with rings that wrapped around my penis. Every few seconds the rings would gently contract, with resistance (indicative of an erection) being recorded by the device. This way they can document an entire nighttime of erections, all while you sleep at home in the comfort of your own bed.
If the op’s doc is smart, they’ll make this one of the first tests, as it’s noninvasive and pain-free. I just wish someone had done that for me before they did all the other stuff:
My penis doesn’t work very well. At 25, had a penile doppler scan. A nurse injected Caverject (vasodilator) into my penis. (yes, a needle in the side of your penis hurts. A lot.) Ten minutes later (when there was supposed to be a raging erection, but there wasn’t one), two doppler techs came in and used a probe sort of like an ultrasound unit to measure penile blood flow. The results were, um, sub-par. That led to the pelvic arteriogram. after some mild sedation, they sliced into my femor…
Maybe you can’t do it this way anymore with press on stamps but back when they were licked wrapping some around your penis at night was a good initial indicator of physical disfunction if none of them had broken apart by morning. Maybe someone has invented a medical device that does the same thing for much more money.
The stamp thing tells you whether or not there was an erection.
The plethysmograph can tell you how many erections there were, when each one happened, how long each one lasted, and how strong they were.

That sounds so practical, effective, foolproof and accommodating that, for a moment, I wondered if actual doctors had developed it. Seriously, thanks for the info and I’m sorry you had to endure those other procedures. I can almost guarantee every male reading this is doing the same thing – covering up with both hands.
