It’s so clear now. I was typing the word “breakdown,” and had my right hand in the wrong position on the keyboard. It came out as “brealpwm,” which is clearly a Welsh word, right?
Right?

If it’s not, it sure as hell should be.
Cywir. Cyfiethu â “can’t type.”
O tjoml upi cpi;d ne pm tp sp,tjomg!
Does this translate to “Sure. It means ‘Can’t type’?”
I only know 4 words in Welsh, I can’t spell them, however, those weren’t they.
The 4 words I know, were taught me by my great grandmother when I was 5. I’m not sure why she taught me how to say beer, bread and cheeze, but I know why she taughtme “shut up”!
I can only remember two - Dynion and Merched, and I can’t even remember which is which.
Clue: they would normally be found on two adjacent doorways, and you would want to get the right one :o
Ahem.
Just so you know, my maternal grandfather was Welsh.
[Krusty]Seriously, the Welsh are great. Always there for the kids.[/Krusty]
Ie. (yes, in other words)
My father’s first language was Welsh (he learned English in school), but I can’t claim to be fluent.
Is that how they spell cheese in Welsh? I’ll be buggered. :smack:
Woo hoo, I was right.
By the way, in that case, good one!
I can’t imagine this would be an everyday problem for you, but in case you should find yoruself in a rather eccentric bar or whatever* “merched” = women, and “dynion” = those other humans.
*Oh yeah, just don’t do such a thing with a serious gastric upset - that tiny few seconds it takes to sort out which word is which seems VERY long time. (And to make it sillier, this wasn’t even Welsh in my case, but Gaelic - Celyn ran off 'bus, looked for nearest place that would possess public toilets, ran in, but the doors were labelled only in Gaelic and even the mere fact that the word they used for “women” or “ladies” just wasn’t the one I would normally recognise at first seemed quite terrible. (Mind was sort of on other urgent matters at the time, I fear.)
