i think i may be a racist..... and i dont like it

I’m so glad this is the pit, so I can say. Fuck you, you’re an idiot.

I typed out a response. I decided to delete it because I realized this is just degrading into a situation where people are just trying to ‘win’ against whatever another person who they’ve deemed as an ‘opponent’ says.

One thing I do want to say: read that sentence you were referring to again. You have completely misinterpreted it. My point of concern is NOT her being called a racist…

Just remember what I said about being overly worried about being labeled a racist instead of worrying over the actual damage that racism causes, because I think that’s exactly what you did and which is why you missed my point.

Sorry, I still don’t get that point from what you wrote. But I accept that you meant it differently if you say so.

If everyone is a racist then who isn’t? What is the meaning of a word if you use it so generally. Does it only apply to white people in North America/Europe? Or, does it apply to someone like me who works in a setting with people from 35 different nationalities where everyone has to be treated the same in order for everyone to get along with each other. When does my whiteness stop causing me to be a racist?

Sorry, I didn’t mean to set the bar so high with facts and reality.

Maybe if everyone just believed what you said the world would be better? Well, except for the lack of scientific or social advancement…

Stupid IE locking up… :smack:

You didn’t set the bar high with facts. I posted a link where it talked about how pheromones help determine sexual attraction.

For me to argue this with you, it seems like I would have to illuminate you to the nature of sexuality. That I’d have to show you that all biological processes that make up the unique creature that is an individual human are determined by their genetics. I’d have to show you genealogical tables that prove that someone from Africa and I share a father much much much farther back than I share with people in Europe.

Basically there are a whole bunch of basics that you are missing, and I don’t feel that I have the time, nor the inclination to disabuse you of your ignorance. Race might be a very fuzzy categorization, but that doesn’t mean there is no basis as to why we draw the distinctions that we do. It’s not like anglos think that people from England are of a different race. Now they think people from Africa are a different race, and they base is on genetic variation such as skin color, height build and gasp…pheromones. If you’re willing to admit that other biological and physical features of a human being are genetic, but deny that pheromones are then I’ll have to say “Fuck you, you’re an idiot.” and leave it at that.

We make a delineation based upon race on a whole person, not partial aspects of their personality. Someone isn’t black or white because of their eyes, skin and hair, but their pheromones are of a different ethnicity from those other features.

Erek

It’s not a question of whether or not pheromnones have some connection with genetics. It’s a question of whether that connection is in any way tied to generalized notions of what constitutes race.

Your own cite, the one you provided earlier in this thread, said that pheromones are as unique as fingerprints. This by itself suggests that they are not connected in any discernible way with our ideas of race. After all, can you differentiate a black man’s fingerprint from a white man’s fingerprint, just by looking at the whorls and ridges?

Furthermore, your own cite made no mention of any correlation between pheromonal characteristics and the phenotypical criteria that are popularly associated with the concept of race. The connection between pheromones and genetics has no necessary relationship to the issue of whether pheromones help us distinguish between the groups that we have come to designate as different races.

If you can show me evidence that scientists have found a specific set of chemical or genetic characteristics that differentiate black people’s pheromones from white people’s pheromones, then you might have something of a case. But so far you’ve provided nothing of the sort.

Did you even read your own cite? Like where it said “The scientific verdict is pending” or “there’s absolutely no proof that they can deliver on any kind of erotic promise”? Jesus Christ on a pogo stick, do some fucking research.

No you wouldn’t, you dolt, you’d have to talk about race, not sexuality.

I’m not disputing that, but you’ve made no connection between that and pheromones.

Height? Build? Phermones? What height do people from ‘Africa’ have to be? They tend to range from the taller tribes in the plains of southern Africa to the freakishly small Pygmies of central Africa. What about Egyptians? The Moors? The Moops? From Halle Berry’s height, build and pheromones, what race is she? Tiger Woods? Rod Woodson? The late Brandon Lee?
It’s mostly about skin color and facial features.

What are you talking about? I’ve just argued that they are not an indicator of race any more than handedness is and that there is scientific doubt as to whether or not they have any effect in mating.

Personality? WTF does personality have to do with race?

Please tell me the differences between ‘black pheromones’ and ‘white pheromones’. What of the offspring of a black person and a white person? Is it a mixed pheromone or is it like eye color with a specific phenotype?
