I think I'm going to change my name to Staple, Paper Clip, Other Thing!

This actually happened this weekend, but I’m a posting procrastinoter, and I still think it’s funny.

In lieu of actual conversation, which I’m not very good at, I tend to blurt out random trivia (particularly science-y things). People who know me have gotten used to hearing things like, “You can tell the difference between male and female crickets because the female has a long thingy called an ovipositor sticking out of her end,” when I feel the need for social interaction.

So I was thinking about posting on the Dope, which led me to thinking about my username, which led me to randomly ask my dad, “Hey, you know what the smallest bones in the human body are?”
He: The ones in the ear.
Me: Do you know what they’re called?
He: Yes.
(long pause)
Me: Well?
He: (over his shoulder as he’s walking away) The staple, the paper clip, and the… other thing.

Huh, it doesn’t look nearly as funny typed as heard. Anyway, I was in hysterics. The staple, the paper clip, the other thing!

I think I said this once before, but: I can’t read your alias without singing it to the tune of “Mele Kalikimaka”.

“Malleus, Incus, Stapes is Hawaii’s way / to say Merry Christmas to you!”

No, don’t change it - we love you just the way you are.

I would love to have a version of MIS in my conversational circles - I love random facts, especially sciencey!

Just for you, presenting…Vincent Nigel Murray.

Do you also have a psychological attachment to groups of three, because three is the magic number? Not that I do, or anything.

The kneebone’s connected to the… something. The something’s connected to the… red thing. The red thing’s connected to my wrist watch

Hear the word of the Lord!

Just kidding.

Aw, thanks.

I like 3. And 7. And 9. But not all together, because the colors clash.

/sings sadly He put the lime in the coconut …

I really miss him, he was one of my favorite squints. I wish they would lose Daisey and keep Opie.

Everyone knows the correct answer is the staple, the incus, and the Santa Maria.

I don’t know where you found that, Little Nemo.

It’s mallard, incubus, sable.

It can’t be mallard. Any duck-related question with three answers is always Huey, Dewey, and Louie.

Good god, you’re right…

It’s mallet, :smack: incisor, :smack: and sabre. :smack:

This line made me laugh aloud! Thankfully, I didn’t have a mouthful of anything to spew.

Oh crap. Now I have another Doper whose name will always go with music.

How about “cleater”? Everyone knows what a cleater is, right?

It didn’t make me laugh, it made me think, “Oh, cool! Another synesthete on the Dope!”

Threes are yellow. Sevens are purple. Nines are black. They all look rather nice together, actually.

Purple and yellow look good together?

[synesthete fight]
My 3’s are red, my 7’s are yellow, and my 9’s are navy blue. Too many primary colors.
[/synesthete fight]

Well, they can. Especially if the black is the dominant color and the purple and yellow are there more as accents.

Bah! Fours are red. Heathen.

Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Kirk, Spock and McCoy.

Wash, rinse, repeat.
