What’s wrong with one thread inspiring another thread, as long as the topic of discussion is legitimate?
Well, okay, not “innocent.” But I don’t see how that makes it trolling.
The thread was totally innocent. It was certainly not naive to what’s going on elsewhere. But it wasn’t a callout of anyone or anything outside the thread.
There was no side point to it. The adverse mod action makes the point that certain topics and posters are entitled to good-faith assumptions that other topics aren’t. I didn’t make that point; ecg made that point when he chose to intervene.
Moderator double downs. (and the hurricane was indeed headed for Alabama…)
Moderators (and admins!) need to mod with their fingers outside the trigger guard. This warning was given hastily and with little allowance made for any misunderstanding of intent. It should be rescinded.

After consideration of HMS Irruncible’s comments and the comments of others in this thread, I have decided to rescind the warning.
I see the thread is re-opened and the warning is reversed, so I appreciate that consideration.
Realistically, I don’t see that thread being viable after the sidetrack, and I probably won’t start another similar thread being that I still don’t fully understand what is OK or not for this format.
Glad to hear this. Yet another sign that the moderation staff is flexible and willing to listen to disagreements.

I whole-heartedly agree and am also very pleased that the Mods here are as receptive to criticism as they are; I know that isn’t the case in many places online.
Now that there is some resolution on the main topic of this thread, I wanted to comment on this:
This is anything but. What it is, is your second attempt in an unrelated thread to bring up an item that you disagree with. It’s a hijack, and repeated bringing up the same item across multiple threads can also be considered spam.
First, you’re going to have to accept that the moderation team does not often agree with your assessment of what constitutes trolling. Second, I recommend you don’t continue to attempt to rehash unrelated topics across multiple threads.
That’s why you’re one of my favorite mods, e_c_g. You keep an open mind and are willing to reconsider your mod actions.

I fully concur. It’s not easy making these decisions on countless posts and threads day after day, and it’s pretty much impossible to always make exactly the right call. A good mod isn’t measured by perfection, but by being fair and open-minded.
