I think my next phone is going to be a nokia

I’ll give you the first iPad (note: not a phone). But the iPhone 3G came out in July of 2008. It had a pretty good run.

I’d be interested in a cite for when MS released info that Windows 7 phones would not be upgradeable to Windows 8. If it was back when the phones were first released (and they haven’t made similar statements about Win8 phones), that’d go a long way towards convincing me to try one.

Yep, that was about a year ago, I will see what I can dig up on Sunday.

Yeah, except 4.0 practically bricked the 3G. It would literally take it a minute to open some applications. I changed to Android out of principle after that bullshit.

I don’t believe that they ever confirmed anything one way or another until recently. They have, however, stated that the only reason for the break is that WP8 is a fundamental rewrite of the OS, and that it couldn’t simply be ported to existing hardware. They’ve also said that they won’t need to fundamentally rewrite again the same way. WP7 was written off a WinCE codebase, whereas WP8 is written off the main Windows codebase.

I think the only real misstep with the “no WP8 on WP8 devices” was that the launched the “flagship” Nokia 900 so close to that announcement. Sadly, I have a feeling Nokia just felt they couldn’t afford to delay.

I would be more happier if I could get a cite that had microsoft dot com , but I think this should be close enough

Thanks. Still not really happy about a six-month old phone not getting future updates, but being upfront about it is encouraging.

So based on a rogers canada forum, the 920 is getting released tomorrow to selected stores. I went ahead and ordered the phone from device reservations, and i am 200 or so, in line. Not quite the same numbers as the apple iphone 5, where i seen wait lists in the thousand plus range.

The only kicker is that i read in a seperate forum , that rogers was releasing most windows devices on or by november 9, so i am enquiring further to see what the actual release date is, but i am hoping to have it by the end of the week.

I saw this fairly funny ad for the Nokia Lumia and came to see if anyone on the Dope knew what it was really like. Did you ever get your phone Declan? Did you like it?

Yes i did, i had to wait about 2 more weeks to finally get it. As much as i like it, i work in an abrasive enviroment, that has me still using the iphone on a daily basis. On the weekends, the nokia comes out.

Apps are still not where i would like them to be in terms of moving full time to the lumia, but they are improving. Nokia is supposed to be coming out with a camera update, that gives me, in addition to the iso setting that comes with the lumia out of the box, shutter speed and f stop control, thats huge.

If your jumping from a legacy phone to the lumia, your in for a treat, but if your porting over from an android or IOS device, its not close to parity on the app side yet. So it can be disappointing in that regard, if your a heavy user.
