Did you have a date in mind? i still have this weekend off, and i keep missing the fests.
This weekend seems too soon. Maybe people will be too broke right after Christmas, but what about a New Years Dopefest in Chicago? THAT would be wild!
My weekends off are December. 21-22, and then January 11 and 12. O do not know if i can arrange to get New years eve off.
What other dates work for the ChiDopers?

Just a note that there is talk of a big ChiDope the last week of March - I’ll be starting a thread before too long. As far as anything before that, I’ll make it if I can.
I’d be up for it if at least one other person is aiming for something other than mere drunken debauchery. I am both old and married, and I feel left out when it’s all about getting blasted, sportin’ cleavage, and doing stuff you hope no one else ever finds out about. I have not the stamina, the boobage, or the ability to be sneaky. So I need to have at least one other curmudgeon in the room.
What about scintillating conversation about farts? Hot debates about the merits of Icebreakers over Winterfresh gum? That’s the kind of thing that will get me to buy a a train ticket to Chi-town.
DopeFests are what you make them. I’ve seen a number of posts in the past, not just Cranky’s here, that imply people sometimes feel intimidated or uncomfortable attending some of these dopefests. I think Cranky’s idea of finding a like-minded doper or two to attend is a good thing. That said however, the attempt for “A Quite ChiDope” a couple of months ago was not particuarly quiet. The same core group generally attends these things, and the core group for ChiDopes is generally not a quite bunch.
That said, some notes on ChiDopes:[ul][li]A lot of the people who attend ChiDopes like to drink, flirt, and generally have a wild time.[/li][li]No one will make you drink, flirt, or have a wild time if you don’t want to.[/li][li]Plenty of conversations happen at ChiDopes that are not about sex. I just can’t happen to remember any. ;)[/li][li]If you are having a conversation that is not about sex, people won’t come and interrupt you and and make you talk about sex.[/li][li]This is not an exclusionary group. If you show up, people will be friendly and talk to you.[/li][li]Hookups have been known to happen at ChiDopes (since we are such a friendly group), but again, if you don’t wanna, nobody’s gonna make you (unless you’re into that sort of thing :D).[/li]And a note to some folks (who I can’t remember) who thought they had to be personally invited to a DopeFest. If the notice is publicly posted, everyone is by definition invited.[/ul]

Sorry if I sounded like wet blanket. As a Michigan Doper, I do know how to have fun. Let’s just let my message be a notice to those who raised eyebrows over “drunken debauchery” that some of us Dopers are more boring than that, if they feel (as a boring person themselves) there is no place for them at a Dopefest, rest assured. There are Dopers of all types in the world!

End of March? I suppose I could hold out that long, what with BamaDope at the end of the year, and all.
SuperDude, I’m certainly not suggesting we wait til end of March for a ChiDope, since we have mini fests all the time. I definitely didn’t mean to put a damper on things and I apologize if I came across that way - I’d certainly be up for something in December, too. But if we’re talking a big giant fest like the one we had at the end of August, those tend to take more planning (which people probably don’t have time for right now), and people who want to fly in get a better deal if it’s a couple/three months out.

Cranky, you and I can have a “haunt the independent and foreign movie theaters, solve the world’s problems over high-quality ethnic food, and generally behave like adults” Dopefest any time you want.

Yeah, but I’ll bet you’ll refuse to go see that Lance Bass movie with jarbaby and me though.
Maybe we can both get sinus infections like the last (and only) time we met, and sit staring dully at each other.
Speaking as someone who’s never attended a ChiDope and would really like to, can we not make it the 29th? Holiday parties abound that weekend and I’m pretty booked.
FTR, that’s also when Juniper200’s party is, although admittedly I don’t know that she’s having loads of ChiDopers at that one.
Actually, Zanshin, that was the reason why I thought that the end of March was just about ideal.
