I turned my husband into a Star Trek geek

Star Trek: The Next Generation, that is.

He used to be scornful of us “geeks” that watched this stuff. Recently I’ve been tivo’ing these reruns off of G4, and lately I’ve been coming home to find him getting one (or more) of the taped episodes lined up to watch during dinner. I even caught him crying during the episode of “Ethics”, when it looked like Worf might have died on the operating table.

Hahahahahaha! Another victim falls! Actually, I’m glad he’s into them, because I never saw more than half of the original episodes. I’ve been catching shows I never saw before and am enjoying it immensely.

Ewww, what a crappy episode to be turned by…

Still, it’s a victory for geekdom.

Could have been worse. Could have been that absolutely execrable episode featurin Lwaxana Troi AND Alexander.

Good for you! I was fortunate enough to marry a guy who was already a Star Trek geek. In fact, we first realized we were in love in 1979 when we went to see the first Star Trek movie, and had similar opinions of it.

Actually, the one that really hooked him is also a favorite of mine. I can’t remember the title - it’s the one where a Federation tech guy wants to disassemble Data and a trial is held to determine Data’s legal status. Jean-Luc acts as his defense attorney and we get to see a good performance of a classically trained actor giving a speech in a courtroom drama.

Now the mister has his favorite Borg or Lore or Klingon episodes just like a dyed-in-the-wool Trek geek.

Measure of a Man

My father, for some reason I can’t remember, would not let us watch Trek when it originally aired.

Imagine my surprise, years later, when I caught him with a copy of The Making of Star Trek. I had gone off to college, and HE had become a trekkie!

Shouldn’t you have turned him into a Niven geek instead? :stuck_out_tongue:

Only if she was very, very, very lucky.

(Sorry, couldn’t resist that one.)

Ha Ha Ha! Resistance is Futile!
(someone had to say it)

If it was The Original Series, perhaps he thought it was too scary for you. I watched it as a young kid during its original run, and it scared the urine out of me once or twice.

I had that book! I read the hell out of it in high school, and finally it fell apart and I had to throw it away.

My husband likes Niven very much, but not half as much as I do. I reread everything written in the Known Space timeline at least every other year.
