I used a carton of cream that was two weeks past its freshness date

I had these amazing organic strawberries, and I REALLY wanted to make strawberry ice cream, and I hadn’t gotten around to throwing away this carton of heavy cream I bought three or four weeks ago and never used. The date read “May 30.”

So I picked it up, and it wasn’t all swollen with rotten cream gases. I gave it a good shake and I opened it. I sniffed at it several times and it didn’t SMELL spoiled.

So I stuck my little finger in it and tasted it. It tasted fine.

So I deliberated for about two seconds, and then I made ice cream. Man oh Maneschewitz, it’s really good.

I’m bragging a little here cuz I remember a thread or two on this very subject. Dopers seemed pretty evenly divided as to whether they would have used that cream, or slapped a biohazard sticker on it and tossed it without even checking it.

Count me on the thrifty and iron-stomached side. And yes, I’ll eat stuff I’ve dropped on the floor.

Living life on the edge, eh? You wacky thrillseeker, you!

It’s true, Bosda. I usually live by the credo “Life itself is dangerous enough.” But sometimes you gotta take it to the edge, baby! Walk on the wild side! Homemade strawberry ice cream is worth it!

Why not just purchase some fresh cream?

i live in chinatown; no fresh cream for many blocks.

I would have thrown it away, but I never drink cream or milk, so the more importan question would be, Why do I even have it?
