I finished my research, marked my ballot, and dropped it off in person at my local Supervisor of Election’s office today. I’m anxiously waiting for the notification that it’s been counted.
I also filled out my ballot and dropped it in the secure box today. I don’t think my vote will be “counted” until election day, but i hope it will be received and accepted in a couple of days.
Oh wow, i just checked and it’s already been accepted! Okay, i guess i voted today.
This website might help you
It’s pointing to 2020, so if the mail-in rules have changed since then you might need to poke around some more. But in 2020, they didn’t start counting ballots until October 12.
I put my ballot in the mailbox today. California should notify me within 3 days or so that it’s been received.
I voted straight Democratic. I’ll put my I voted sticker on my purse when I know it’s been counted. We’ve had break-ins at a post office or two here in the Sacramento area in the last week or so. They stole mail and laptops. The stolen mail included ballots.
Me too—just got the nice email below. If California goes to Harris, it will no doubt be because my vote was the one that tipped the balance.
(Hello Dr.Drake,
This is a message from the California Secretary of State on behalf of San Diego Registrar of Voters. Your ballot for the November 5, 2024, General Election was received and counted. Thank you for voting!)
I don’t get a notification, i need to go look up the status of my ballot.
I just finished filling out my ballot and I’ll put it in the mail in the morning. Is Saturday mail pickup still a thing?
Since I live in Sacramento so I’m pretty confident that my votes for Kamala, Schiff, and Matsui will just add to their easy victories(In Kamala’s case I mean in CA). The only election with any suspense is the race for mayor of Sacramento. Of course, due to CA primary rules means that it’s a liberal Democrat(who I voted for) running against a moderate Democrat.
Husband’s ballot finally showed up. He’s pondering some of the amendments, but should be sending it back soon.
Voted in person yesterday. This state, Wyoming, is guaranteed to go Republican so I wrote in Bernie Sanders for President and Liz Cheney for Senator. I did some research on the downballot races and made some meaningful choices for school board, state senator and so on.
And in so doing you increased trump’s margin of victory in WY. And contributed to the story that he won the national popular vote.
Good move.
Perhaps you’ve heard of the Electoral College. Your vote for President doesn’t mean shit if the majority of voters in your state go for another candidate.
Unless you live in Maine or Nebraska, who award EC votes by Congressional Districts.
I voted on Friday at the early voting place. The line was short and it was easy to do. Then I rewarded myself with a trip to the freeze dried candy store for a treat afterwards!
I understand that. It means nothing as to who wins the presidency.
But …
Every vote is meaningful in the propaganda war about what Americans really prefer. If Harris garnered zero votes in your state and instead Sanders (or some 3rd party candidate) got all of them you can be assured that would be a gigantic propaganda coup for the Fascists.
Every pile of sand is just an accumulation of grains. Choosing to put your grain in the pile that helps the national D cause the 2nd-least rather than the most seems to me to be shortsighted when we are in a battle for what constitutes truth and what constitutes the actual preferences of the American public.
It sounds fun to stick your middle finger up and stick out your tongue at “The System”. But it’s (microscopically) harmful, not (microscopically) helpful, to the cause you hold dear.
YMMV.
My mileage does indeed vary. Your pile of sand and my tilt a a windmill will be a distant memories the week after the election. The bottom line is that I’d rather register a protest vote for a truly righteous person (Bernie) than to vote with vanishingly small impact for just another politician. And Liz Cheney is arguably somewhat evil but would be a much better Senator than the hardcore evil cynical bastard who is the incumbent.
My local Supervisor of Election’s web site now says my ballot was received and counted. Mission accomplished.
My take also. I don’t waste my vote on symbolic protest write-ins. No one except a couple clerks in the election even see them.
Every election I’ve worked when it’s time to record the write ins, without fail some dumbass will write in Santa or Mickey Mouse or their own name. If the write in is not a verified candidate even if it was a serious choice like Bernie it’s means Jack shit.
