I wanna get creeped out! Tell me some creepy stuff!

And they’re patiently waiting to take over. Once you die, your body is more alive than ever. Well, from a certain point of view.

Old, but it ought to fuck you up good. Pool party, anyone?

OK so I just spent the past hour reading this, and it just ends abruptly, with Ted going back to the scary cave, and never returning to update his journal, since 2001. Anyone know what happened?

Nevermind - I Googled this and it’s widely known to be a fictional story… http://liquigel.net/text/terror.html etc…

Legends tell of a link that, rarely, appears on message boards on the internet. It looks, to the reader who can see it, like any other link. But the post that contains it appears to him and him alone. When he clicks on it, he reads a frightening story. He attempts to tell others on the board, but they have never seen it. They think he is insane. Soon, his inability to convince others that the mystery post was real really does drive him mad. He spends the rest of his days suffering in interminable, circular GD threads about UFOs and the Kennedy assassination, raving to anyone who will listen about the mysterious link.

Then a big monster eats him. The End.

A couple of years ago I set up a home security system at our holiday house that relies on a webcam with motion detecting software to trigger a video recording. The recording is then saved to remote server. By doing this I could check remotely on the house as well as record any intrusion. It took a lot of fiddling around until I had all the settings worked out.

We spent a weekend staying at the house and had a great time. When I got back to Sydney I thought I would check the recordings that had been captured, since I hadn’t checked them for a couple of weeks.

At about 2am in the morning of the first night we stayed there was an event recorded on the system. I played the video and couldn’t see anything, but the PIR light had come on. I played the video a few times to see what had set of the recording, thinking it was a cat or possum. Then I though to look through the video capture frame-by-frame. Faaaaawwwwkkk. For 3 frames - just 3 frames - there was a clear black silhouette of a person - a completely still outline of a person, standing looking at the camera. I could see nothing in the frame to either side. Nothing at all.

Aafter I started thinking straight I though it must have been malicious code written into the security software. But then what set off the PIR light?

Classic shadow person.

The Fortean Times message board (OK, OK, guilty pleasure) has a forum dedicated to “It Happened To Me!” stories. Some of the creepiest are the ones that are completely off the wall and seem to have no connection to anything else one has ever heard of. One of the most popular stories was about a guy who was spooked by a pair of glowing cows that dancing in the road.

Eesh. I read that story in a Year’s Best Fantasy and Horror collection a few years ago. It’s the only story I’ve ever read there that really got under my skin. Be warned, folks: it’s utterly revolting.

I enjoy reading about creepy things in Wikipedia, since then you know there is at least some factual basis for it.

One of the creepiest things I read was linked from here, something about a group of Russian college kids on a hiking trip in the 50s who were all found dead. You can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyatlov_Pass_incident

(It’s never good when something is referred to as an “incident”)

The creepiest thing by far about the Dyatlov Pass incident for me, is the woman found missing her tongue. WTF?!?

I’m also a sucker for the ‘true tales’-brand of ghost stories; I used to frequent a site I can’t find anymore that had a whole archive of those, somewhat more regular ghost stories and slightly more imaginative, outlandish ones. One that for some reason absolutely terrified me was a story about getting lost in the woods and coming to some kind of cabin, only to realize that the person looking out from the inside was upside down. Anyway, I think these are the archives, if not the site; there should be some creepiness for everyone.

There is an area in Australia where the earthwormsgrow up to 12 feet long. You can actually hear them moving under the ground. If that doesn’t creep you out, nothing will.

I would like to know this too…I actually read all of it, and although I don’t put faith in it, it did creep me the fuck out enough to look over my shoulder a couple times

When I was a kid of about 12 or so we went to the house of some friends who were just landscaping their new yard. They pulled out some worms that were at least a foot or two long. This was in Northern Indiana. I’ve never seen such a thing before or since.

I’m reading the Holders series at work (it’s a slow day), and the front door just slammed. That was…startling. The Holders aren’t so much creepy as deeply compelling, though less believable than some of the simpler stories.

“true tales” ghost stories? How about some of these?

This gave me the same kind of vibe as when I used to chat with some of the homeless people around UT Austin (on “the Drag”, if you know it). Some of them would have the most hypnotically insane tales to tell, and all I could do was listen with a feeling of unreality.

This video is creeptastic, IMO. A mere description of it confirmed my wife’s decision never ever ever to set foot in a cave. (It shows possibly the worst arthropod in existence).

A very creepy camping trip.

So, one summer night I was sleeping and I’m jolted awake by a sharp pain in my index finger. Acting instinctively, I drew my hand protectively against my chest, and tried to go back to sleep. It really hurt, though. I told myself not to be a baby, and tossed and turned for a while, probably close to half an hour. Eventually I decided that if I wasn’t sleeping because of my owie, I should get up and use the bathroom. So, I reached out with the non-sore hand and turned on the light.

There was blood everywhere.

On my pillowcase, on my blanket, running down my hand…I even managed to get some on my clothes, and apparently I had put my hand near my face while trying to get back to sleep because there was blood on my chin and neck too.

I never did figure out if it was a unfortunately placed spider bite since there was a spider wandering around the room or the field mouse I later found out that the cats had brought up stairs that night. Either way, once I saw all the blood, I was less mad at myself for having a little boo boo keep me awake!
