I want CLAM DIP!!!

Dammit!

I am a child of New England. Born in Maine where I spent the first fifteen years of my life, then moved to NH for another four before coming to Atlanta.
That said, I’ve been waxing nostalgic for foods I loved growing up. There was a time when I was able to buy Humpty Dumpty chips online by the case and have them shipped to my house. There are no flavors better than their Bar-B-Q and Sour Cream and Clam (yeah, you heard me, Clam). Unfortunately, the outstanding Humpty Dumpty corporation, originally based out of Portland, ME was bought out by a band of vile, hateful, spiteful CANADIANS! As such, they no longer carry (or at least ship) my Clam flavor, and though the Bar-B-Q can still be bought and shipped, their shipping prices are through the roof. Bastards…

Heluva Good also makes an outstanding Clam Dip that I remember delving into long ago. Unfortunately no store down here in Atlanta seems to carry their Clam dip (but you can buy their onion, or horseradish). The great news is that you can buy a 6-pack of their dip for only $17. However they will not guarantee their delivery unless you overnight it, which IS ANOTHER SEVENTEEN DOLLARS.

I thought about sticking this in the BBQ pit (mmmmmmmm, Bar-B-Q), but I was wondering if a) anyone had any viable solutions (the missus tried making some for me once with fresh clams, NOT good) and b) is anyone else waxing nostalgic for foodstuffs?

Upon moving to Texas, I discovered I couldn’t find any store which carries Texas Pete hot sauce.

Very odd, that. I guess it’s just a southeastern US product… I know it’s made in North Carolina. (I can just imagine the commercials now… “This stuff’s made in Winston-Salem!” “Winston-Salem? Get a rope.”)

I can get Tabasco and a million other hot sauces, but I want Texas Pete, darn it!

Do you have Reeser’s brand on the East coast? They made a clam dip yonks back in the PNW. Very nice!

Haven’t had any in ages cos I now live in the UK, but will probably get some when we go back this summer.

I loved dipping a chip in the clam then French onion… mmmm

Not really nostalic, but there are quite a few foods I miss - proper deli dill pickles, Jello pudding, butterscotch chips, crispy Chinese noodles… quite a few things when I think about it.

Clam Dip

1 8 oz package cream cheese, softened
1 can chopped clams
1/2 cup finely diced onion
1 t. Tabasco, or to taste
1 T. Worcestershire Sauce
1 T. Mustard
Salt & Pepper

Mix it all up. Add more Tabasco. Let it cool a little bit. Eat!

Not sure if it’s the clam dip you like, but it’s damn good!

Y’all can have all the clam dip that could potentially come into my life. It’s just plain wrong.

I went to Brady’s Oysters on last week’s trip to Washington. I bought two smoked salmon fillets for myself, and one for the office. I also asked for two small bags of smoked oysters. The counter girl said she was throwing in two bags of smoked oyster pieces, which I could share with my workmates.

So I mixed the two bags of smoked oysters with two 16-oz. containers of cream cheese and brought them and the salmon (plus some Ritz crackers) into the office. Everyone likes the dip! (And of course, everyone really likes the salmon.)

Here I am, snowed in and can’t get to the store. Now I have a craving for clam dip!

Although, I do have Texas Pete!

Mearlchan, here you go:
Texas Pete heaven .

I will try the clam dip recommended Athena. It looks a lot like the one the missus made, but hers came out tasting like evil. I will try the recipe myself this time.

I’m still peeved at Humpty Dumpty though.
