For any of those that signed up for the CD price fixing refund, we were suppose to have our refund checks in our grubby little paws by this time. For residents of Washington state, that is $13.76. The amount for each state was determined by population and the number of folks that signed up for a refund.
Like many, I had forgotten about it till I heard a report on the local news this morning. 5 folks filed appeals to the original settlement and 4 have been dismissed. The only thing holding up the money is an appeal filed by some guy in a Georgia prison. He is locked up for burglary and child molestation. He wants $6 million and a complete Beatles CD collection. The money is being held till the appeal is settled.
Where did you learn you were receiving $13.76? The only place I could find any information with the payout amount (and my search skills are at best, a little short of average) was on the urban legends/snopes page http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/nothing/cdrefund.asp Snopes says the refund is $12.60.
Also, on the settlement page, it does not say anything about the refund per person, based on a states population. It says the amount paid is based on the * total * number of claims filed, and each claim would be paid the same amount. Nowhere on the settlement website (that I could find) gives a dollar amount per claim (I’m guessing this is due to the pending appeal you mention).
I signed up before the deadline, and have heard nothing on it until I read your post. I’m curious about the end result of the settlement.
The $13.76 is listed at the bottom of the article that racer72 linked. However, my local news station also ran an article a little bit ago with the $12.60 as the check amount. I dunno, just send our money!
