I, along with thousands of other Yankees/baseball fans, would love to attend the 2008 MLB All-Star game at Yankee Stadium. It’ll be the stadium’s last year, NYC has only hosted a few (2? 3?) All-Star games in the past ~40 years, etc. I’ve never tried to go to any All-Star game before, let alone one at such a high-profile stadium, so I have no idea how the tickets work. Is it just like any other game, where they go on sale at a certain time and you just have to get them before they’re sold out? Do average folks have a chance? Is camping out on StubHub my best bet? Does anyone know when the tix for this year’s game went on sale? Am I totally nuts for wanting to do this?
I imagine that 2008 Yankees season ticket holders might get an early crack at special events … anyone want to work out a deal with me?
(Yep, I’m aware that there could be some serious $$ involved with these tickets, and also aware that I could pay said serious $$ and wind up with bleacher seats. It might still be worth it. :))
The Yankees will makes All-Star game tickets available only to season ticket holders and then likely only a select number of them and there will likely be extraordinarily high prices charged.
Scalpers will charge a lot for this game.
From my experience of going to one All-Star game back in 1980, I would pass on this and if you want to go see Yankee Stadium, go to a regular season game and enjoy Yankee Stadium for an actual Yankees game.
All-Star game crowds are papered with sponsors and minor celebrities from Fox TV series.
You will probably need to go through stub hub. I am going to try to get to the final game of the season, no matter what the cost. I want to be at the last regular season game played at the Big Ballpark in the Bronx.
I will also try to make as many postseason games as possible in 2008.
I will then try to be at the first game in 2009 in the new ballpark. I will by this time need a second mortgage.
I purposely chose to go to less games this year to save money towards games next year. The Old Timers game is another game I would like to go to and I will pay extra for it.
In my experience, StubHub is a terrible place to buy tickets (but may be a good place to sell them). Scalpers or eBay always have better prices. I’ve looked at StubHub for tickets to a game that wasn’t even going to sell out, and people were asking at least double face value. That would be my last resort.
Sorry for the delay in getting back to this thread: I wasn’t able to reply on the same day, and then it dropped off my User CP list and I forgot about it. :o
Wow, really? They’ll rely on season ticket holders to fill the stadium, and there won’t be any sales to the general public at all? Yeesh.
I’m not sure why you’d assume that a Yankees fan has never been to Yankee Stadium for an actual Yankees game. I didn’t start the thread because I want to go to Yankee Stadium, I started the thread because I want to go to the 2008 All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium (your bad experience 27 years ago notwithstanding). But thanks.
Would you two get your act together? But seriously, I’ll keep an eye on StubHub – and eBay, and Craigslist – as next year’s game draws near.
I went to the All-Star game in Houston in 2003. The All-Star game was included (at an increased price of course) in my season ticket package. I had my exact same seats for the game.
The game itself was boring, but it is a good way to see any of the players you might have missed.
I had never seen Arod or Ichiro (living in an NL only town), so I can cross them off the list.
