As I mentioned in a previous thread, I was hoping to see a Yankee game this summer (hopefully flying out from CA for the July 4th weekend).
But on the Yankee website, I’m finding it very difficult to find any tickets. When I did a global search for 2 tickets in any seating range (“Best Available”) for the entire month of July, it only came up with 3 options! Is this for real? Are there too many season ticket holders to hope for much variety for a single-game purchase?
As a partial season plan holder, I haven’t tried to buy seats on the Yankee website this year - but - from what I’ve heard, the Yankees have sold almost every ticket available. Supposedly all Friday, Saturday and Sunday night games are sold out, and the availability of weekday games is spotty.
If you are serious about wanting to go see a game, I recommend StubHub or the like. And a large budget.
What you’re doing wrong is that you’re trying to buy tickets for the last season in Yankee Stadium. All of the casual fans are rushing to get their pilgrimage in before the scumbag who owns the Yankees tears down an icon. That is raising demand through the roof, I’d imagine.
It would appear so (heck, I’m across the country and I’m thinking the same thing). It looks like there are only 2 sets of tickets for a Thur-Sun game for the entire summer (Jun-Aug). I’m gonna talk to my wife and then may have to snatch them up fast. Yikes! And thanks!
You can buy tickets to any game, by going through places like StubHub.com or other online ticket resellers. They are legal, but you will pay more then sticker price.
The Red Sox have sold out for the past 5-6 years, but finding tickets aren’t that difficult, sometimes at just a reasonable bit over sticker.
Some icons need to be torn down. Yankee Stadium, for all its history, is crumbling. 80 years is a nice long life for a building. (No doubt Seattlites wish the money they spent on the Kingdome had gone even half that far.) Time to retire Father Time with appreciation, and let Baby New Year arrive already.
Agreed. As someone who visits the stadium 15-20 times a year, it is time. Quite frankly, the Red Sox could also use a new stadium, iconic though these stadiums are. Nostalgia does not make up for an 80+ year old infrastructure which gets tortured over 80 times a year.
Surprisingly, no one complains about the demolition of Shea Stadium.
I think you waited too long. I bought my plane tickets at the end of Feb, so I bought my Red Sox & NYY tickets on March 3rd with no trouble, and I thought that was pretty surprising.
Do you want to see the Yankees or the Stadium? I live in Vegas, but born and raised in NY and a die-hard Yankee fan. I bought tickets for NY at LAA in September and got pretty good seats. They visit the Angels twice this season (1 weekend series, 1 weekday set); you might want to consider that option. Plus, Angels tix are a heckuva lot cheaper.
I wanted to see a game in the stadium before it’s too late.
And apparently, I was able to get the final two remaining weekend reserved seating tickets for the entire summer! Whew!
Aug 31, the Yanks vs. the Blue Jays. I’m a National League guy, so I have no dog in that hunt. They’re in the nosebleeds (1st base side), but I’m going to go as early as I can so I can explore around as much as possible.
So, Yankee Stadium aficianados–what do I need to see? What’s a Must-Eat at the stadium? How early can I show up before the game? What’s the best (nice) place to stay overnight so I can get to the game most conveniently (and preferably have it be airport convenient, too). Anything else I need to know to maximize my one-and-only Yankee Stadium Experience?
Best eating is just inside of gate 4, IMO, but nothing strikes me as “must-eat”. Whatever prices you are used to in your home stadiums, still expect to be shocked by the costs. Be sure to visit Monument Park, but you have to be there early. Have your wife’s name put up on the scoreboard - it’s only $10, but reserve early. See yankees.com for details.
I don’t know how much earlier the gates open before the game, especially a day game, but BP ends approximately 30-40 minutes before game time, and the home team takes first BP, so you are talking about 2 or 2.5 hours early to see the home team in BP. Beware, once you enter, you cannot re-enter.
Don’t bring any bags to the stadium.
Don’t stay near the stadium. The stadium isn’t convenient to any airport. Think about what else you want to do when you are here, and stay near there, or stay near the airport. The stadium is very accessible by mass transit. When you have your trip plans (such as what airport you are flying into), I’m sure we can help you a little more.
I was looking at tickets yesterday on the site. Very hard to find, but Stub Hub has plenty. I decided to wait to see how they deliver my tickets for Sunday in Fenway.
If there are no hassles, I will order some next week for the Stadium. No shortage of nosebleeds left.
I failed to find any seats for most of the games, especially the weekend games on the Yankee site.
It may be overkill, but if you want, you could also take a stadium tour on a non-game day. That way, you can get on the field and clubhouse and all that neat stuff, including Monument Park, and then you can spend gameday wandering the “normal” parts of the stadium and soaking in the crowd.
Is this because they’re absolutely not allowed, or do they just insist on searching it? My camera’s pretty big, and I’ll most likely need to bring all my touristy accouterments as well, in my messenger bag. It was allowed in when I took the tour in 2006.
I suspect if I were to do that (it’s a great idea), it would be when my wife would be otherwise occupied. Logistically, it might be tough, but I’ll definitely keep it in mind…
Bags are not allowed, with exceptions for purses or kids’ backpacks or diaper bags. They’ll tell you to either check it at a bowling alley down the street, or throw it away. I lost a perfectly good messenger bag that way last fall. So leave your camera somewhere else.
