I hate my admin. She’s incompetent. She has an attitude problem. She gets drunk at company functions and passes out in the bathroom. She STEALS. The other managers hate her. I don’t understand why she isn’t fired. I can’t directly fire her but Science help me I’m going to find out who can.
Gee, mine just marinates in cheap perfume and will only stop her stream of consciousness ramblings to try to get me to gossip about the supervisors.

Has all this been documented and passed on to whomever *can *fire her? Shouldn’t that do it?
I ask my paralegal for ONE thing and one thing only. To show up on the day we execute documents for pre-recording and I need them notarised.
She’s skipped that day for the last 3 transactions I’ve structured and as a result I’ve built up an enormous amount of badwill with the paralegal at the firm I’ve been working with.
I generally take a live-and-let-live attitude towards government employees but there’s a limit to how many times she can bungle up my deals. I finally talked to my boss about it and I think she got “mildly chastised”. She did send me an apology note but I’m not optimistic for the future.
My secretary? Please, I have one, she does fill out my timesheets for me, that’s about it.
Fortunately I do public-private sector overlap work so the admin assistants for the outside firms do a lot of the admin work I need done. Other stuff? I do it myself. Faster and I’m not going to end up in arbitration with personnel huffing down my back and glare-stares in the hallways from the non-legal network.

Or at least have her title changed to something else. . . like Admin. Annoyance, perhaps.

Actually she is pretty hot. So you know she really pisses me off if I still want to get rid of her.
For what it’s worth, I would never fire an employee for sleeping with the boss.

If she’s your administrative assistant did you hire her? Can you not fire her?
Documentation doesn’t take that long. Get with HR, start a file, and within a month you may be able to get rid of her.
Maybe I’m just really dumb, but how can your AA not be a direct report to you? I mean, how is it you cannot fire her for not doing her job? Maybe I’ve spent way to long in the private sector.
Sometimes admins report to the office manager, not the guy they do the work for.
That is true and it often works out better that way. It puts a layer between the admin and the big shot who may or may not be a good manager.
I’m an AA in a sales department of a Hazmat/Plumbing company. I co-assist 4 salesmen and they couldn’t fire me if they wanted to. Only my sales manager could, or I guess, the GM.
But, I’m a good AA. I don’t need firing. 
Or they are shared and report to a Senior Manager.
“My” AA is a department AA. I never think of her as “my” AA - but I was bemoaning filling out a travel authorization and one of my coworkers said “I have my AA do that.” His AA is like mine - she “belongs” to the department.
I was also an excellent AA when I was one. I made more than one of the agents in a senior position to me.
I’m the AA for our team of seven. I do everything for these women except wipe their bums and I think one of them is fairly close to asking me to do that next. I realise my job spec includes a lot of the things they ask for, I really wish they’d just once or twice take it upon themselves to do one little job instead of chucking it at me. I mean, how difficult is it? I have one person who emails me documents and asks me to print them out for her and then walk down three flights of stairs to give them to her. She has a printer right by her desk that she’s perfectly capable of using.
Really, they don’t pay me enough. Anyone need a top-notch AA? Willing to relocate? Loves cats?
What does she steal?
Is this woman on a power trip or something? The only reason I can think of for her to do this, is just to run your nose in it that she can?
