I think there’s a difference between caring and going out of your way to show how much you care on a message board. And I wouldn’t give one shit what some stranger said, even if it was in support, if this happened to my kid. Trust me, the parents of the victim are in a whole different universe than the SDMB right now. I would be too, and I hope anyone else with at least one foot in reality would be too.
Spot on! Recreational outrage seems to be the adopted term to describe Pit threads based around outrageous news stories, rather than something that happened personally to the OP whether it is in real life or a board-based feud.

Actually no. I’m into necrophilia with a specialty in advanced stages of decomposition. I was wallowing in necrophilia under the guise of recreational outrage. Child porn was merely the catalyst. Anyway, I think your little rant was pathetic. I mocked a lot of things about ROs but not the caring part. This is certainly not the typical pointless “link: let’s all decry rape/murder/child abuse” thread. It’s some dude’s violent fantasies. Whatever. This story actually made me sick. No, I think he had a point in that it happened in his beloved, otherwise quiet hometown, thus bringing trouble/infamy there and breaking up any feeling of safety and normalcy.
I think the idea is that he went way fucking overboard in wallowing in the details of the news story, repeating parts like they were a mantra or a focus of desire/hate/both, and talking about wanting to wear their entrails. That’s pretty freaking perverse as well.
I don’t see a whole lot of caring in the OP, though. It’s almost entirely focused on details of how Euth would serve justice – “Set you on fire, then put you out. Set you on fire, then put you out,” which are as brutal as, if not more than, the acts that sparked his rage to begin with.
He does spare a thought for people who are mourning – “I see the town collective gather around this family’s loss and surround him like some half-assed shield. I feel the hurt his older brother has” – but none for the victim. And he goes right on to “and I want you know about loss. I want to wear your mother fucking entrails. I want to play in your reindeer games.”
Mourning would be along the lines of, “Christopher Michael Barrios will not see spring come this year. Christopher Michael Barrios will never advance to the second grade,” and like that. That would be tugging at our heartstrings, but at least it would be expressing sympathy for the victim. I don’t see any sympathy in the OP. I’m sure the eye-for-an-eye aspect is the reason Euth wished brutally violent acts on these people, but it just seems an odd way to “mourn” someone who died from a brutally violent act.
Really! That’s too precious. I hadn’t clicked on the link and actually didn’t know it was Fox. I assumed it was a small town local paper. I merely questioned what sort of news organization has so little respect for family values like mourning and dignity that it would explicitly detail near-pornographic sexual violence to a dead child just to prostitute itself for ratings.

I tend to doubt the human compassion of an OP who indulges in sadistic ideation, especially those that launch into elaborate revenge fantasies while forgetting to mention the victim’s name even once.
I tend to discount compassion as a controlling impulse of someone who so viciously attacks anyone who disagrees with him/her, especially when they’re both members of a virtual, but much smaller community themselves.
Not only is there no compassion in the OP, there’s no outrage, at least insofar as “outrage” can be understood as the anger prompted by some new atrocity.
No outrage; just a hateful person’s opportunistic eye for a chance to publicly indulge the violent and sadistic impulses that are always lurking, and probably have been for a long time. Of course, they’d be roundly condemned if aired in the context of the officious clerk or overbearing boss or obnoxious neighbor or loveless spouse or unappreciative child that really sparks this fire, but they might, just might, pass muster or with luck even be applauded if presented as the oxymoronically passionate but objective perspective of the would-be vigilante.
I think that the epic and semi-poetic pornography of violence presented in the OP is too pat, with too many parts that fit the OP just fine but not the incident, particularly, and also much too quick, and has lasted much too long, to have been born in its entirety from this single, recent incident. I think that the OP is drawing on well-rehearsed images and just now has seized a (misplaced, I think – most of us aren’t sharing this mindset) chance to validate them before an audience. To which I say: ick.
