I went to a cannabis store today

So, I go to the gym after my last post and lo and behold on the TV there is a story about THC gummies being laced with fentanyl. The odd thing is that these were legally purchased in a shop and the product came from a licensed, commercial producer. It happened in Pennsylvania but they said the product is distributed around the country. In any case, I was referring to the vegetative form in my other post. I suppose its just a matter of time but going to the legal shop is no guarantee of quality control.

They have always gotten free samples.

Like one told a friend of mine:

“I’m confiscating this and letting you go this time. I better not catch you on this road with marijuana in your car again next Thursday night at this time.”

A product with the same name, same size and other characteristics may be sold around the country, but it will be produced separately in each state. In other words, there’s no legal importing or exporting of cannabis between states.

I haven’t purchased any in Missouri since we legalized recreational/adult use. I did buy some a few times when I had a medical card. I could pay at the register with a card, but they would round up the price to, say, $150, and then give me back $3.55 in cash. Basically I think they ran them up as ATM transactions instead of credit/debit.

We’ve got the weird gray market “gifting” situation in DC. It’s still somewhat shady, but DC cops don’t really give a shit. Prices are extortionate.

It’s been legal in Virginia since 2021 and now Maryland as of Jan 1, though Virginia still has no avenues for recreational retail. Republicans in the state legislature have been dragging their feet and stalling as long as possible, which could potentially be forever. They had a gray market for a while but that’s been cracked down lately.

Maryland retail goes live July 1. Their state legislature is working out retail regulations right now.

Based on this thread, this seems really expensive. Or am I looking at the wrong product, man?

Looks spendy, but it’s easy to compare it with other stores’ menus.

That’s roughly the price range I saw in MO the other day. It’s still too expensive.

Come to WA:

This is just one I picked at random from Spokane.

Sounds like the cannabis equivalent of old time bootleggers spiking their weak liquor with wood alcohol. I hope this doesn’t become a big hassle for all the innocent shops.

As mentioned, still not legal in Kansas, and won’t be until it’s legal at the Federal level, IMO.

That said, in the past five years I’ve been to dispensaries in Colorado, Michigan, California, and Nevada. Each time I’ve spent around 100 bucks, which supplied me with enough product for several months. (Obviously, I don’t smoke near as much as I did fifty years ago.) Will definitely visit a merchant next time I’m in the KC area.

Last couple of visits I’ve only purchased disposable vapes. These are working just fine for this old fart. Not terribly pricey, and very handy.

Here in Toronto, there are more weed stores than book stores. Seriously - I shot a video a week ago, and as we started editing, we realized there’s at least one weed store in every shot!

There’s enough customers for all of them? Or are the weaker stores going to fold, do you think?

Oh, I think lots of them are going to have to fold. There’s a big demand, but I don’t think it’s THAT big!

There was a security guard at the dispensary I stopped at checking ID’s at the door. I had to LOL a little bit because I used to hate seeing a cop when I was buying weed.

Do we believe this, or is this like the perennial Hallowe’en stories about people handing out weed-laced goodies that have never been true? I mean, why would anyone do that–AFAIK fentanyl doesn’t hit you at all like weed, so what’s the point? I get that it might be cheaper, but…

Here’s a link to the story in the Philadelphia paper:

The article states that

victims told law enforcement they consumed only gummies sold from a Tobacco Hut that they believed contained Delta-8 THC or CBD, authorities said.

In other words, these were NOT gummies that one would purchase at a marijuana dispensary. In Kansas, where pot is still illegal, I can purchase Delta-8 gummies at vape/smoke shops, like this one. These have very low THC content and very high CBD content. AIUI, most, if not all, products sold in dispensaries are overseen by the state at each step of their existence.

If/when it’s legalized federally, could any of the 50 states still refuse to legalize it within their own borders? Kansas specifically has been quite pissy about bordering states legalizing. Now that Missouri has lealized for recreational, and Oklahoma has legalized for medical (*but the medical program there is so wide open and unregulated that they’re calling it Toke-lahoma), that leaves only Nebraska as a holdout state that hasn’t legalized yet. As regards states that border Nebraska, that is.

States could certainly keep it illegal if it becomes legal Federally. In California, there are counties where retail sales (but not possession) are illegal. There is no Constitutional right to pot.
