It is that time of the year-- me and my old, grown-ass husband are watching Elf of the Year by ourselves. At one point an elf exclaims “I wish I never had a brother!” and I am transported to the time when my own children were, well, children and they watched movies where this very same line was uttered. There were a lot of movies were children wished away their siblings, almost always a brother. Boys are such a pain.
Specifically I am remembering a movie in which a sibling is wished away and then the remaining siblings play a game which not only destroys the house. but the fate of the wished away siblings hang . My memories are vague but the thing that’s really killing me is that I think there may have been more than one of these movies.
Am I crazy? Don’t answer that. Do you remember these kid’s movies? You can answer that.
Jumanji in space, basically, and not bad at all. Two brothers are always quarreling and there is a plot point about one brother wishing the other didn’t exist.
This book I have very fond memories of but not complete memories. I do remember one of them wishing that the baby would disappear? Not weigh so much? But since it was half magic, the baby floated half-way up in the air.
