It is rather frightening when she does that. Maybe she is just a figment of our imagination…or we’re just figments of hers…something like that.
But…why do we have to be careful? I mean, I hope no one is getting stock tips from her, or having her sell their house or provide medical care. I mean, if you post on here that you’re the Queen of Alberta, and you crap gold bars, and I believe you, I’m not exactly harmed, yano? I suppose if you promise me a gold-bar turd and I make some financial deal based on getting it and then you reneg, I might have a problem, generally, not so much.
If RSSchen or MizGrand lies and makes shit up - well, none of us are her husband or lover, so it probably doesn’t really affect us, except in an abstract way.
Or have I missed your point?
Oh fergawdsakes. It wasn’t enough to hurl abuse, now you have to out her changed name and continue?
Some of you folks badly, desperately need hobbies.
Person posted an unpleasant story, yes, but actually listened to some advice and plans to act on it. At this point, I think that people badly need to lay off her. You’ve already tossed all the stones you have. I know people are itching to personally tattoo the red A on her forehead, but it looks as though she actually listened. And frankly, I’m a veteran of an advice board where people contemplating affairs very rarely listened to any advice. I think some good was done and more can be. And that people should just back the hell off now.
Maybe I’M the SDMB Groupthink!
Crap, you mean those tips on FCOJ options I got from her are bad, too? I gotta call my commodities broker pronto…
Stranger
I really think you are overreacting. This is not a community. It IS just a message board. I think you’re taking this forum far too seriously.
Oh crap. Notes to self: call broker; cancel operation.
RSSchen changed her username because posters went from telling her that it would be easy to identify her, to posting methods one might use to identify her, to posting (at this point contrary to a mod warning) little tidbits they had found about her, to wondering how long it will be before someone finds her husband and mails him a printout of the thread. Specific attention was brought to the fact that her username was a good clue to her real name.
This was done because she had an affair and started a thread about it that was the equivalent of surrounding his name with hearts and flowers in her diary.
Like many people in unhappy marriages, she had an affair. Like many people in unhappy marriages, she dreamed up daffy scenarios and fantasies of escape. Unlike most people, she posted those daffy passing thoughts here. Then she proceeded to make rather a fool of herself backpedalling, when her audience thought that she had actually done the things she was fantasizing about. I think she got a lot of good advice, and a lot of well-earned abuse, but now we can let it go, can’t we?
featherlou, sorry, but you’re completely and utterly wrong.
It’s not really that anyone outed her name change. It was pretty obvious to anyone paying attention.
But I agree that after the board repeatedly pummelled her with advice, she seems to have taken it. That’s a Good Thing.
She outed her own name change in the Pit thread, but other than that, I agree with you.
WhyNot does that to me, too, except that she’s a lot funnier than I am. Mobs are notoriously difficult to aim? That’s pure gold, kids.
And just so I’m at least tangentially on topic … really, a banning? The rule is: Don’t be a jerk. Nobody told me there was a rule against deluding yourself and writing ill-advised posts. As far as I know, we’re still all free to wander into that tar pit as we please.
Who do you think is posting here? Bots?
Hmmmm… I didn’t think
“this is not a community”
and
“the people who post on this message board are not alive”
were identical. Apparently you do, so I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree.
Would you like to take a moment and register me?
Coming soon to a Q-Pit near you:
RSSchen died for your sins!
tubadiva, why was this thread closed?
tubadiva, why was this thread allowed to go on so long?
Scylla, you’re an asshole!
Giraffe, is this a new rule now?
Then I suppose a better question would be, “What do you think a community is, anyway?”
Good question - I think you’ve got right to the heart of the matter. RSSchen/MizGrand is, in my opinion, a confirmed liar at this point. Does it matter if we can’t trust anything she says - does it affect my life at all that she could be lying in any post here? I can think of a few subjects where her advice would be highly suspect, and possibly even dangerous to take, but isn’t it always a case of buyer beware when you listen to advice you get on the internet? Maybe it doesn’t matter at all that she’s a liar and manipulator - I have no intention of taking any advice from her, and she’s not manipulating anyone in my life.
jjimm, I don’t think I’m wrong, but I do think I over-reacted.
Later.
Lowbrass it might help if we knew what your definition of a community was. There are several, under most of which the SDMB could conceivably be classified.
It’s not an internet message board; I know that.
Why not?
