I find your ideas intriguing and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
Yes to torches and pitchforks!
Yes to marking others for life!
No to Hester Prynne!
Yes to going apeshit!
No to restraint!
Yes to insinuating ourselves into the lives of others!
How come? I’m not about to search your past threads for examples, but I’m sure you’ve posted things here that you’d never share in Fleshworld. I’d bet that lieu doesn’t describe the size, color, and consistancy of his turds with his coworkers. I’d bet that a certain Aussie chick didn’t share the details of a recent sexual encounter with her mother. I would never call my boss a fuckwit. And while I can be a bit of a flirt in real life, it’s almost never as outrageous as it is here.
For that matter, there are things I share with my coworkers that I’d never share with my family, and vice versa. The point is, there are many types of community, and varying levels of how much of ourselves we give in each of them.
I bet he does.
Oh yeah-I remember her now. I also remember who said Doper was-he totally didn’t deserve that.
As far as the name change here goes, I think the mods just did it to keep her from pestering them, and knowing that it wasn’t any good. She’s too stupid to realize it, so what’s the harm?
Thank you. I was trying to decide how best to answer this. My coworkers are not my friends. Is that clear enough? I mean, I like them and all, but I have a different personality at work than I do at home, for example.
I recall when I started a relationship thread about handling finances with my soon to be ex husband, someone suggested that the thread be closed and I be banned. WTF? My response was very simple…if you don’t like what you are reading, quit reading it. It seems to me that the moderators do a very good job at throwing out the trash so we should leave it to them to spot the fakes, phonies and trouble makers.
Since I am not an every day reader or poster, I quess I don’t understand the mentality of a member to suggest such a thing unless they are being harrassed when they have stopped responding or writing on a thread.
And yet you would probably describe your workplace as a community. This is why I don’t get lowbrass’s assertion that what defines a community is that one is obligated to make one’s life an open book. By that standard, I am part of no communities at all, as some parts of my life are private even to those closest to me. Hell, last night my brother asked me about the details of my recent breakup. He kept pestering me. I had to insist that I didn’t want to discuss it until he had no choice but to accept it. It was simply not his business.
Brief hijack: It may be that lieu will be able to capitalize on one of my get-rich-quick schemes (#4022). It involves starting a daily blog devoted entirely to the quality, consistency, color and odor of one’s fecal castings, along with a photograph (linked, so the main page is SFW). A coterie of online “feces-buffs” (need a new term there. Work on it) will find the blog, which can be maintained fairly cheaply.
Revenue would come from mutli-level memberships, (including such perks as a moderated Thursday night IRC chat on issues raised during the previous week) as well as advertising from pharmaceutical companies, certain niche-market pornography producers, and The Vermont Cheese Council , who will not be terribly pleased when next month’s WebTrends report arrives.
Why did I expect to see a miniature Brad Pitt come tumbling outta that horses ass?
Add me to the list of ‘no banning required’. I mean really, she’s deplorable but not ban worthy.
Or you could just put her on ignore.
Way easier, requires nothing courtesy (i.e., not trumpeting the fact that you’ve placed her on ignore) and a teensy bit of self-control (not taking her off ignore to read posts of hers that appear blank to you).
I mrean, really. What has she done in violation of board rules? Nothing that I can see.
Well now that she’s changed her username to MizGrand, I assume the name RSSchen is available… can I have it?
I’ll tell you guys something which many of you may find disturbing.
In my real life, my legal name is not actually friedo.
I demand that I be banned at once.
“Fecophile”. You owe me one hundred dollars.
Actually, I think I like “Dung Beetle” better.
Oh, so you think you’re something special, that you can just be banned on a whim? Just so you can see what it “feels like”. I think the mods should not ban you, just to spite you!
Dang, you beat me to it.
If you’re right, he’s totally missing out.
Sounds like you’re just talking about what’s socially appropriate, rather than saying you would be more willing to share personal details of your life here than with your real life friends and acquaintances. I think the latter was the topic of discussion, not the former.
