Few people are aware of Dr. Seuss’ career as a political cartoonist. I wasn’t, either, until I came upon this page at UCSD.
He was the chief editorial cartoonist for the defunct New York PM newspaper, and drew over 400 political cartoons (in his trademark style, naturally) during his term. What I found most interesting was his continued anti-isolationist messages, even as late as 1943.
(Were we really that complacent, even a year after Pearl Harbor? That really calls for a GD thread)
Two panels in particular caught my eye:
Jul 28 1942 reminds me to insure myself against Hitler.
Jan 5 1943 just seems eerily prophetic.
