My 8 y.o. son started watching this show several months ago and I didn’t pay much attention to it. However, over the last few moths, I have gotten hooked. The first full episode I watched was funny. Every one since has been just as good. As far as I’m concerned it’s probably one of the 10 best TV series currently in production.
I don’t even have a kid to blame, it just happens to be on near another show I watch, but I like it. For the most part, anyway…any Neville episode is one I have to turn off. And the show-within-a-show is absolutely frikkin’ annoying. (And I think I’d have agreed even back when I was in the target audience.) Any episode with Principal [del]Tuvok[/del]Franklin, on the other hand, is gold.
My 10 year old loves this show – has DVD’s and everything. I don’t know that I’d call it one of the best shows on television (I am definitely not the target audience), but it’s better and more witty than it has to be. It’s not excruciating to sit through.
My kid also really likes Drake and Josh which was the show that Carly was on before this one. That one had some pretty amusing slapstick in it.
Good God. My kids watch this and I haven’t even bothered briefly tuning my brain in to the dialog; it’s background noise. I suppose I’ll give it a chance now.
iWatch it too…even when my 4 year old daughter isn’t home. Yesterday I caught myself pausing it when I had to leave the room for a minute. Hey, if nothing else is on, it’s pretty entertaining. There are certainly worse things to watch.
ETA, I actually made a point of recording the one hour show iPsycho for myself. (which is good, that was a little too much for a 4 year old I think).
My daughter and I love the show. Sam is our homegirl! The show is hilarious, and believe it or not, quite edgy. It is the only Nick/Disney show my 11 year old likes.
My son started watching it a couple of years ago. He’ll have it on, then wander off. Both my husband and I have sat through entire episodes, fully intending on changing the channel.
I don’t think Sam is gay. She’s a tom-boy with 'tude.
I never got that vibe from Sam. She’s had boyfriends and crushes on boys before.
I love the show. I used to never watch it because those teen shows usually suck, but one day my crazy great aunt was talking about how my wife and I’s marriage isn’t going to last more than five years because we lived together, and instead of paying attention to her I started watching whatever was on, and it was iCarly, and now I’m a huge fan.
The writing really is funny, and some of the jokes are obviously for the older crowd.
Ex:
Carly walks down stairs for a date and her older brother, Spencer, started to have “the talk” with her, and he’s obviously uncomfortable.
ETA: I used to do that Cha-Cha thing and I once got a question: How old is iCarly? I’ve been jerking off to her but my friend says she’s only 16 and I don’t want to be weird.
Carly looks freaked out, “We are not having that talk right now.”
Spencer: “Oh, thank God!”
Miranda Cosgrove is my 11 year-old son’s first major, painful crush. He loves that girl. She doesn’t even know he exists. I think she will be a big star if the Hollywood machine doesn’t crush her up and spit her out. And Sam the character may not be gay, but I do get that vibe from the actress. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
We watch it a lot - probably because my daughter looks almost exactly like Miranda Cosgrove (Carly). I honestly mean that - people stop her in shopping malls and on vacation and ask for autographs.
So Rand - stay the hell out of the Chicago west suburbs
That’s what I meant, actually. The actress, not the character. Just a feeling I get. Not that there’s anything wrong with it, and she adds a lot of energy to the show.
Although I don’t doubt that your daughter is as gorgeous as Miranda Cosgrove, there is one area that I really don’t think she could possibly compare. Miranda Cosgrove’s dome is the size of a planet.
