I was taking a group through Icewind Dale 2 when I accidentally deleted my saves and all. I was trying to delete the game next to it in the entry. Ooops. Fortunately, I wasn’t too far along, so I’ll just cheat my way back quick.
But I wanted feedback on my party to see how it would run.
(Tank) Shield Dwarf Fighter 4/Barb the rest
Nice advantage here is I can crank him up to 20 Con at the start for massive HP. He’ll probably go axes and then greataxe later in the game as the utility of AC drops off. The usual damage upgrades, heroic isnpiration, cleave, etc. There’s no point in more fighter levels because you run out of feats to buy.
(Mage-killer) Human Fighter 1-4/Monk the rest
For killing mages, of course. High saves and good attacks (stunning blow!).
I’ll go for Improved Crit and Dash. Maybe Dirty Fighting, since she gets a lot of attacks and chances to crit. Otherwise, use a bow and pick off enemies or rush them after they’ve all been distracted by the dwarf. This character takes the sneaking skills.
- See below for some thoughts on this character, please.
(Divine) Aasimar Cleric of Lathander
Going for Lathander for the fire-based spells.
Get sub-vocal casting for a backup and the feats to enhance fire. Since this characters gets Improved Turning free, take high charisma and make her to party face.
(Nuker) Moon Elf Sorcerer
Race doesn’t matter much here. Taking Moon Elf just because. Uses crossbows when not nuking.
Feats are going the usual spell focus, etc. Probably make the character a fire or electricity specialist. One or two attack spells and opne or two buffs per spell level.
Eventually I’ll add a Tiefling Rogue 1/Wizard the rest
This character takes the usual rogue skills. Probably takes Armored Arcana so I can use the leather armor I find. This character is a better crossbow user than above and casts mostly buffs and summons and things before the battle.
Should I take a sixth member? Thinking a specialist archer? Maybe a Fighter 4/bard or Fighter/Cleric? Again, there’s little gain frm taking fighter all thr way through, and this is a 3.0 game, so there’s little use in the ranger archer builds.
On the Fighter/Monk build-
The key question here is, how much Fighter should I start with, and should I take a level of Ranger with them or instead? The point to doing so is to get a better weapon selection. You do get a lot of unarmed attacks with monk, but with mediocre damage, no “plusses”, and no magic extras. Fighter gives feats, Ranger dual-weapons. I could go Fighter 4 and use longswords or bastard swords. I could take Ranger 1 and use on-and-off-hand weapons with good critical hit capacity.
