ID a quote: Advice for female pop stars, late 90s

I’ve been looking for an open letter from an 80s female pop star (Chrissie Hynde? Pat Benatar? Joan Jett?) to the Britney Spears/Cristina Aguilera generation of pop princesses, warning them that there’s a downside to being a sex bomb. This was maybe 12-15 years ago. The two quotes I remember best are “The proper attitude is ‘F you,’ not ‘F me’” and “Above all, don’t put too much stock in advice from old timers like me.”

Does this ring any bells for anyone?

So, what’s the downside ?

6“Don’t think that sticking your boobs out and trying to look fckable will help. Remember you’re in a rock and roll band. It’s not ‘Fck me,’ it’s ‘F*ck you!’”

and

10 "Don’t take advice from people like me. Do your own thing always.”

Thanks, Prof!

Claverhouse: I’m guessing it gives your career a short shelf life and makes whatever you sing dismissable and forgotten early?

I disagree with #2:

Never pretend you know more than you do. If you don’t know chord names, refer to the dots. Don’t go near the desk unless you plan on becoming an engineer.

The first half is credible enough - real musicians will call you out of you’re bullshitting. But come on, better advice is to learn the chords! And the second part is nuts, every musician should learn the technology of recording. Being able to record your own music is a vital skill and give you a level of creative freedom that you just can’t get any other way.
