I'd like a blog with categories.

This is maybe a little GQish, but I’d like opinions on different services as well as the cold hard facts.

I’d like to have a blog where I can sort my entries into different categories. Like, I’ll make some entries about tea, and some about games, and some about books, etc. I’d like to be able to click a link then and get posts that are only about books.

I’ve messed around with blogger, and as far as I can tell, you can’t do this with basic blogger. Am I wrong? Can you hack it? Is there a sexier pay version that would let me sort posts by category? Are there other blogging services that let you do this for free?

Pardon my cluelessness regarding all things blog. I’ve been poking around trying to answer this questions, but I’m such the newbie that it’s mostly it’s just making my head hurt.

Moveable Type is one kind of blog where you can do categories. I think there’s a free version and pay version and from what I hear from others there’s a learning curve with it.

I’m pretty sure blogger pro doesn’t let you do the nifty category thing.

For an example of catagories in blog entries in Moveable type go to www.wilwheaton.net

Under each entry there is a link you can click to go to each of his catagories like: blog or poker etc.

Livejournal has a “memory” function, where you can organize past entries into whatever kind of categories you want. Like so.

I like Movable Type. It’s a little bit of work to get it set up, but once it’s set up, it’s a breeze to use.

pmachine has the same function, and it has the advantage of being not only free, but far easier to set up than MT. I use it (although I admit that MT has some nifty features and looks cooler).

I’ll second pMachine. It’s a great program with a great community behind it.
