I'd like to talk about the ending to Independence Day, Resurgence. (Open spoilers)

[Did anyone else get the feeling they were setting us up for a TV series?

I mean, the ending definitely left us with the impression that there is more to come. But with they way they set it up, I’m not sure how that would play out on the big screen.
So, anyone else predict they will move the franchise to TV?]

Never thought of that (presumed a sequel would be a movie), but a television series makes sense. The aliens keep going from planet to planet on their path of destruction, while the humans and other alien victims, equipped by the AppleSphere  aliens, pursue them. (I get the impression there’s not an alien home planet for the Sphere-human-victim alliance to attack.)

Do we get ahead of them, arrive right in the middle of fighting (and get mistakenly shot down like the Sphere aliens in the movie), or arrive too late? Do the Sphere aliens use us and the other victim species as mere cannon fodder. (I got a vague whiff of that prospect in the movie.) Do we* start resenting or even resisting the Sphere aliens for using us as cannon-fodder? Do we* get along with all the other victim/soldier species? (Being victims/allies doesn’t guarantee they’re nice people; see the Soviets as allies in WWII.) Tune in to this episode to find out!

*or at least some faction of humans.

I think Roland said that there was supposed to be a couple of sequels, but after the box office returns, I don’t know if it did respectable enough to take a chance on a third.

Declan

The last I heard (a few weeks ago), he was also doing a reboot of the Stargate franchise. So I’ve got a fun probably incorrect theory that the new Stargate reboot and the ID4 franchise are going to be the same thing, because let’s be honest, the situation presented at the end of Resurgence is basically the premise of Stargate: SG-1.
