I'd rather pay someone to do that in the MMP

About 9 years ago, I was interviewing for a position advertised as a 6-month temp job. It was to help wipe out a backlog, and it happened to be perfect for what I wanted at the time. I couldn’t believe it when the guy conducting the interview asked where I saw myself in 5 years. WTF??

We’d already covered that I’d retired and I was taking this job to make some extra cash for an upcoming vacation. So I just told him I hoped to be retired for real by then. The man who ended up being my boss there thought it was a ridiculous question also, so it wasn’t just me.

That’s the only time I’ve been asked that question.

Happy Saturday!

I wimped out again. It was 17 feels like 5 this morning.
I was getting ready to go, until I opened the door to put the dogs out. The wind hit me in the face and I thought NOPE! Not going to happen.
I’m getting wimpier and wimpier by the day.

Unknown, your husband must have the patience of a saint dealing with his friend.

I’m kind of a loose planner. Too rigid stresses me out much.
Too loose, though, and nothing gets done. Which is how it has been lately.

{{{Shady}}}

Today I’ll finish the laundry I started on Thorsday. That has been going slow.
I can only go so fast with my small dryer and the washer that doesn’t seem to like spin cycles.

I’ve got some buttermilk to use up, so I was just thinking the same thing. Besides homemade bread is yummy! :yum:

flyboy that’s very cool! I used to have regular dreams that I had found extra rooms in my house, but it’s never happened. :disappointed:

Nut is the Terribly Important Meeting about the THING? Should we be crossing our appendages with extra ferocity?

Man, COVID is a PITA. I’m exhausted and still have a cough. I’ve talked to my dr. Although I was still testing to positive on the rapid test a few days ago, she says that as long as I mask I am safe to go about the public. The cough is likely to be asthma that has been triggered by the COVID and might last a few months. The exhaustion will hopefully get better as I continue to recover. F*ck COIVD.

I think we’ll be binging Ozark today. I don’t have a small cuddle puppy, but I do have a large fox dog smashed against my legs. It’s close enough to cuddling that I’m not sure how I will get more coffee. Honey? Sweetie?

I just got a brief dusting of snow, and it was all gone by the time I left work. It’s cold and windy, but I have laundry in the dryer, and soup in the belly.

Flyboy, that’s pretty nifty.

Storm dumped enough inches of snow on us that we decided it wasn’t worth risking going to a funeral today at 11. Church has already been canceled for tomorrow.

I’m watching Solo: A Star Wars Story, which I’ve only watched once before, when it came out in theaters. It doesn’t deserve its bad reputation.

My sister turns 37 today. I’m going to call her up and do the Monty Python “old woman” scene from Holy Grail. She did it to me three years ago; it’s only fair.

Abbey had a sore on her chin. Wifey, RN looked at it yesterday morning and saw that there was swelling. She cleaned it out with peroxide last night, and there was some draining. Fortunately, there were cancellations at the vet and we just got back. The swelling was much reduced this morning. The vet said it looks like it’s healing, and gave us a week’s worth of antibiotics. As an RN, Mrs. L.A. will check for any adverse reactions. The vet said there’s no need to bring Abbey in for a follow-up, but he’ll call next week to check how she’s doing.

Abbey weighs 12 ½ pounds. The vet tech guessed 14. I guessed 13. Wifey guessed 12 and then said, ‘Since I guessed 12, she’ll probably weigh 12 ½.’

I had a long conversation with a friend this morning. She’s one of the secretaries at the high school where I taught–in fact, we were both hired about the same time. Years ago she decided she wanted me as a friend. I’d never had a friendship start that way before, and TBH, I wouldn’t have picked her for a friend because we don’t have that much in common, but she’s been a good friend, and i count the friendship as one of my blessings.

She’s retiring in June. It’s sad because she was the backbone of that school. When I started teaching there, the HS had a statewide reputation as being cutting-edge and excellent. I was on a team that went to high schools who requested teacher training from us. Then that principal left, and it’s been a gradual downhill slide. :frowning: I doubt the current administration will even give her a handshake. They’re a lazy bunch who don’t yet realize how much they’ve relied on her.

Anyway, while talking to her I got my desk reorganized and did some cleaning. I’m going to go for a walk. We’ll see how far I get before I can’t handle it and have to come home. I wonder if I’ll have surgery on Friday or not. My guess is not, but I can’t reach anyone who could tell me.

sunny, I hope you make a full recovery soon. COVID sounds like a nasty beast that doesn’t care when it’s worn out its welcome.

It really is. My other dreaded question was, “So tell us a little about yourself.” Not a dumb question, and I understand why it’s asked, but I hate it anyway. Once when I was interviewing for a job I knew was going to the in-house candidate, I replied, “Chapter One. I Am Born.” They laughed, and one even recognized the reference.

Serious question: How do you apply it so your pants don’t stick to your legs? I read once that Doris Day coated herself with petroleum jelly each night, and it was a problem because she’d slide right off her silk sheets. I never got that. It seems sticky, not slick. I’d use it more if I could figure out the stickiness issue.

Stay warm and dry, those in the path of the Abominable Snowstorm.

Abbey just got a squirt of medicine down her gullet, which pleased her not.

I’m sorry for your losses, shady. Hugs to you and yours.

today is gray and cold and aunt is bitching about everything including paint drying grass growing …

other than that not much going on … thanks all hopefully things cheer up here

glad everyone’s getting over the plague or not having it …

I don’t. They still stick. But I rubbed it in as much as I could before putting on my pants, plus they’re almost leggings, so they “stick” anyway. When I was younger and single, I slept in men’s long pajamas, so it didn’t matter to me if those legs stuck to mine. Now, I try to apply it so that it has enough time to be absorbed or minimized.

I went out to clear the driveway as it was melting, and I found that the stiff push broom was the best tool. There will still be a few small icy patches in the morning, but most of the drive is dry, so huzzah! And it didn’t take very long at all!

We went to Bert’s for late lunch/early supper because they have a sign proclaiming “Under New Management” - we haven’t been there for years, and frankly, we didn’t notice a difference. Mediocre food, too-loud music, slow service. We won’t be going back.

And now we’re definitely in for the duration. It’s very windy and in the 20s out there, so brutal, despite the sun. Chillage shall ensue in the warmth of home.

Read much, retained little. So hugs, trouts, etcs for all.

Wow, a full day of hard work on the floor really got to me the next day. The museum piece I made and had to help them set up is a low set of drawers, hence lots of kneeling on the floor and putting the drawers in and out of the cabinet. My legs are killing me. And my butt muscles. I’m a sore-ass.

S’pose I should think about some dinner.

Stay safe, y’all.

Evening all.Soccer went pretty well, was in and around the gym from 9:30a to 5p, either coaching, refereeing, or solving my Sudoku triple (nailed it). So home in 35F weather and don;t plan on going out any more today. Tomorrow will be laundry day, I have hit bottom on underwear and socks, so the thing will be done. That and tackleball (and meatloaf at Logan’s Roadhouse) will take care of my Sunday obligations.

VanGo, rest those weary bones (and muscles). I seldom kneel these days unless it’s totally unavoidable.

nellie, I had to look up that reference on being born, one of the Classics that I managed to avoid in High School. And I know what you mean about a good secretary being the backbone of an organization; guess they won;t know what they are losing until she is gone.

flyboy, regarding your story, fascinating find and I hope they can restore it and add it to the decor of the renovations.

Sunny, get well soon.

Sari, below 20F and a wind-chill of 5F is not wimping out, unless you’re an Eskimo, You simply applied common sense.

Nut, welcome to the wonderful world of procrastination; population 99.8% of the human race…

Boo fae, sounds like a delightful time with your friends. And perfect timing on the appointment to boot!

FCM, I have a space heater in my computer room, where I spent a majority of my time, but never considered using it for the bathroom. Will have to give it a try.

OK, need to nuke some pasta for dinner, so all y’all take care.

ace, Chewy uses UPS here, thank goodness. Nutty Buddies are crack to me too (I allow myself one when on the road). The ice cream sounds yummy.

The mural find is cool flyboy.

sari, we skip the dog park anytime it’s under 40F because I’m a wimp. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hope you don’t stay too sore VanGo.

Got a shipment sorted and ready to ship in the studio today. Once I get the valentines to the brick and mortar stores, I’ll start a personal / family project that I do every year about this time. Picked up the prescription at CVS and didn’t look at it until I got home. It’s vial insulin, not pens. :rage: I thought we had this straightened out. Now, I’ll have to go back tomorrow.

The cheap Chinese place down the street fixed supper (house special soup and an aig roll). I’s stuffed! Now to surf for a bit without disturbing the little reddish doggy on my lap.

Tried a new magic Internet Chinese place. Whoever loaded the bag didn’t really think things through, which resulted in sauce from one item leaking onto others. It was manageable.

Yet more “they’re losing their damn minds” around here. Two cars have blown up in a residential area 5 linear miles from me (about 7 miles drive distance), on different days within the last week. No injuries, thank $DeityOfYourChoice, but still… And this is on top of damn near daily shootings in various parts of Sacramento.

Stockton, about an hour away, has a major reputation in the area as a wretched hive, but right about now, I’m sure they’re thinking “Guys, you’re making us look like model citizens here”.

This article says a 42-year-old woman lit 11 fires in one night in Tacoma. I think I heard on the news yesterday that there had been 16 fires in total.

ETA: A KING5 article from yesterday said 16 fires.

WTAF?

I’m baffled, since I’m not deranged enough to build explosive devices and put them in cars.

@Johnny_L.A, I really hope she’s locked up AND getting psych help.

On the plus side, FedEcchs actually made my delivery today. Lovely eBay seller had packaged that glass butter dish (Anchor Hocking Wexford pattern, for those who actually care what I bought) so well that it might well have survived being run over by a truck if that misfortune had happened (far as I can tell, it didn’t). Dish is now in the sink awaiting a tour of the dishwasher before being put in the cupboard, seller got glowing review.

Also woke up to multiple Amazon packages piled at my door (which opens inward, so no problems there). CD and DVD holders are in their places and filled, extra phone cables will be stashed somewhere findable (snicker) and appliance extension cords will be deployed in the kitchen. Plans for the remainder of the day: sloth.

Howdy Y’all! Sloth, nappage, laziness, and general overall worthlessness ruled the day. Been cold out all day, so my only foray out into the open was to the mailbox. I did make grilled ham 'n cheese sammiches so I guess that could count as productivity.

My favorite junk food is Little Debbie’s Swiss Rolls, so I might have to check out that ice cream flavor.

I read all, but retention skills are as worthless as I have been all day. Thus, yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlins, noogies, and how you doin’s all around, as needed.

I walked Mauser with a cane today, first time for that. Before I’d still used the walker for his outings because sometimes he yanks on the leash and I was afrain of being puttled over. But I’m getting more confident with just the cane, and inside my place I’m even walking quite a bit without even that support.

swampy, I envy your talent for sloth. I’ve been trying to do things on my feet to build up strength. Spending time cracking the black walnuts I got keeps me busy, I hope to have them done by this time next week.

missred I used to eat a lot of Nutty Buddies. There was a Quik Shop a few doors down from the laundromat I used to use and I’d either get a drink or the Buddies.
