I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in this - looking around, there are things I know need to be done but I don’t want to do them. Like this pile of papers on my desk to be filed, shredded, or tossed. Or the dusting. Or the windows… Eventually, I’ll adult up and deal with them. Not sure today’s one of those days.
But, from the last MMP:
We had a huge paulownia removed from the back yard and for a number of years after, I’d see little sprouts from it popping up. I don’t know if they came from seed pods or root runners, but they’re all gone now, thank goodness! Now I just have to contend with poplar pop-ups…
More like your brain just can’t compute why someone would act like that - at least that’s how I think I react. All you can do is shake your head and smile weakly while rolling your eyes, right? She sounds like a real piece of work.
FCD is going back to Daughter’s office to help her repair her desk. I’m not sure what needs fixing since I didn’t really look at it. He’s not up to boat chores, but he figures he can manage a minor repair. I, on the other hand, plan to clean the fridge like I intended last week. Maybe I can get that done today. Plus there’s a load of towels on the laundry room floor that needs to find its way into the washer and dryer. Some chores can’t be ignored.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 68 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 92 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. House cleaner will be here around nineish to do her thang. OYKW and I shall go take care of some bank bidness after she gets here. That won’t take too long (I hope) and she’s trustworthy. Tonight is men’s night over to the church house, so we shall go over and do prep stuff for that as is our wont. We’ll have to work in sloth and nappage as well. A full day for us!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, and bother of all bothers, I suppose I must needs purtify and don attire appropriate for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. I live such a difficult life some days!
Hoo-boy! We have stacks/piles of art/photographs, etc. that need to be hung on walls, put on shelves, or stashed in a closet somewhere. There is still a significant amount of crap that is sitting in another (empty) apartment that has been there for two months waiting for a home. I think we’re in denial.
I have lots of ignored chores; for instance, I had planned on painting the interior of my house on vacation and it did not get done. I feel some guilt. I also need to clean my windows and have a pile of shredding that needs to be done. In my defense, my old shredder died and I didn’t buy a new one until last week.
Sari, that woman is no friend and I wouldn’t call her. She’s narcissistic. Isn’t there a different dog park? On the other hand, only you know what you’re willing to bear and if the other folks there make it worth going, then who am I to tell you differently?
The trip to Northwest Trek was pleasant and we got in a few miles walking around the predator, forest animal, and raptor exhibits, as well as a nature trail loop. We opted to not spend 90 bucks to drive our vehicle through the park to view the bison, elk, and other animals. NW Trek houses animals specific to the Northwest. We’ll wait for them to finish the electric tram construction to view those animals.
I always feel some sort of horrible guilt when viewing animals at a zoo or park such as NW Trek. Mainly it’s because I feel like they shouldn’t be penned up.
Ugh, it’s back to work today. I donwanna. I did take a peek at my email again on Friday. Jaysus, Mary, and Joseph, it’s going to be a painful couple of weeks coming up.
Welp, time for my second cup of coffee. I hope you all have a terrific day.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 22c/72f with a predicted high of 24c/76f today and partly cloudy. That’s more my kind of temperatures, I’m done with this over-30c stuff. Weather app says “The weather is fucking fine, but you’re certainly welcome to complain about it anyway. I know you will.” Nope, not me, not complaining as long as we get some wet stuff out of the sky soon. There’s a moderate thunderstorm warning but so far, no signs of anything.
Our few days in Chepstow was fun, gig on Thursday was fab and there was much singing and dancing going on. Also met some folks, chatted to a bunch of people while waiting for beers, and generally had a very good time. Our airbnb was a small cottage down a cobbled hill street with (conveniently) a pub at the bottom of the hill which had a massive beer garden. Sadly, we had to come home on Sunday and made good time getting back to our part of the world. Unloaded the car then headed off to get the cats from the moggery.
Ignored chores? Too many to mention in our house! Since we both work full-time, and have active social lives, it is increasingly the case that we have less time for chores. I don’t dust. I just can’t be bothered, and it’s pointless since the bloody stuff keeps coming back. We keep the bathroom/toilet/kitchen functionally clean, the laundry doesn’t pile up for long, the ironing gets done. The cats are well cared for, food and litter trays are regularly tended to, and the floors get vacuumed/mopped at least every week or two.
We are not houseproud by any stretch of the imagination, we have few visitors and those who do call round know what to expect. The house isn’t filthy, it’s not pristine either. It’s lived in, comfortable, and isn’t the kind of place where you feel the need to wipe your feet on the way out
Question for the cooking and/or food experts here.
I bought a box o’burgundy, strictly for cooking, not for drinking. It’s been stored in the fridge since purchase. As I was just cleaning the fridge, I noticed the “Best if Used By” date was 5 years ago. I still have maybe a pint or so left. Last time I used it was a few months ago, and it was as fragrant as ever, and we didn’t die from the sketty sauce I dumped it into.
SO, is there any reason I shouldn’t keep using it in cooking?
The maple sprouts are growing out of the sides of the stump. I meant to cut/chop them off last month, but I injured my hand. They’re two or three feet fall now. They grow very fast.
It’s what happens when I get a brand new band t-shirt and the postie screws it up to get it through the letter box. I don’t want everyone thinking I’m a total Worzel Gummidge
Morning all. Woke up, according to the clock at 4:44am, but after my micturations I went back to bed until 8am, so hopefully I’ll be set for the day. Shoppin-n-sammich-n-swimmin-n-sauna are on the agenda today along with some more soccer. Heading up to 91F and no rain today (maybe Wednesday).
I’m good at…postponing…some chores, for reasons unknown I don’t use the vacuum as often as I should, you’d think that would be the easiest thing to do, but I clean my toilet more reguarly than I vacuum (I know, TMI…). Like boo fae, the dishes and clothes are washed and things are put away (mostly), but the house is most definitely ‘lived in’.
boo fae, sounds like a fun weekend, hope work doesn’t wear you down.
Cookie, I have many years worth of soccer pictures ready to hang up…and have been that way for almost 2 years…one day I’ll just start and finish it, but this is not that day…
OK, need to finish the morning internettin’ and get out and about. All y’all take care.
Looking at my dining room table which has become a dumping ground. My goal today is to clear it off. Things need to go back to their places.
FCM, I’d dump the rest of the wine. It won’t go toxic, but it may be go all vinegar-y and ick the taste of whatever you add to it. Maybe ask over in Cafe Society?
The fridge is clean, reassembled, and refilled. There wasn’t too much to throw away - some fuzzy cheese, some leftover broccoli that got shoved to the back, some homemade cocktail sauce that looked odd, and a jar that held one chili and some pickle brine - no clue why that was in there. I now have a good inventory for when I next go grocery shopping. I should sort the freezer, but it’s soooo coooooold in there!!!
MIL just called - I’d left then 4 mini-quiches and she wanted to know how to prepare them. Easy-peasy - thaw and warm up. They’re fully baked and ready to go.
Towels are in the dryer. I’ve got a chicken in the smoker, so I guess I know what supper will be. Now I think I’ll drag out the Shark and suck up critter hair. Gray cat hair on gray carpet is pretty much invisible, so I’m always surprised how full the cannister is after one pass thru the room.
Speaking of cat hair, last night I managed to cut a big mat off Ziva - it was the size of a mouse. For all I know, a mouse became entangled in her coat and died…
OK, quit distracting me. I have chores to do. Or to avoid. Still deciding…
Good morning all. 82F here, with temps predicted to be 102.
Finished mulching/bagging all the leaves from the lawn yesterday. It turned into one of those recursive chore chains where ya gotta fix this problem before the next problem, etc. etc. I wanted to use the riding mower to bag up the leaves, but had to fix its flat tire first, then move a car to get the gate open for it, but there was another car behind that car (kid is visiting). Then couldn’t find all the bagging parts to affix to said mower. Then the blade belt came off once I got it all started and I had to repair that. Finally got everything fixed/inflated/fueled/attached/started, zoomed happily into the first pile of leaves, and promptly got stuck, high-centered on a stump. The little tractor wouldn’t move in any direction and churning tires just pushed things until it was against a fence, tree, and on the stump. Eventually I jacked it up and ground away the protruding stump with a chainsaw. After 2 hours of work, I still hadn’t moved a single leaf. But I think the roaring chainsaw near its nether regions frightened the mower into submission – it ran perfectly after that.
I need to cut back a bunch of bushes today, but I hired a lawn guy to do it. GOK what would happen if I tried to operate a power trimmer from a ladder. It seemed the safer option was to watch Netflix and let professionals handle it.
As someone who’s moved a lot, I know this feeling. There’s still a box of photos stacked in a corner of our bedroom. I planned to put them up the first week we moved here – in 1992. Hopefully you’ll get to this stuff quicker than I.
I’ve been wondering why my lower back, glutes, and hamstrings are a little sore this morning. After two cups o’ joe it finally dawned on me that it’s because of the 2.5 hours of yard work I did yesterday.
I think on my lunch break I’ll do something minor with the bark that came off of the logs, rake a spot of debris from the chopping, and mow the weeds lawns. Then I can take my walk after irk.
Was hot (77 F / 25 C) and sunny, and then the clouds rolled in so it’s only 66 F / 29 C and pouring with some rumbling, but few flashes.
Last night we got in at 1:30 am and then met friends for a beer, as today is a holiday. One of my excuses for not doing chores is that the weather’s too nice.
Weather change hasn’t helped my procrastination, although I did send a check off to the I.R.S.
Still need to update our vacation plans, contact the window guy and there’s an ironing board with an iron it, so might do something with that.
If I were one of those people who napped, I’d be napping along my hubby.
Maybe I’ll get motivated when the washer’s done with the first load. I guess I’m doing something constructive, even though I’m sitting on the couch.
I call this common (and annoying) scenario, having a case of the “but-firsts” and my ex referred to it as “stubbing your toe.” As in, you keep trying to do X but stubbing your toe against a broken Y which needs to be fixed before you can Z, all of which is necessary to accomplish X in the first damn place.
Three sweaty hours later, people are all like, “What? You still haven’t done X?! What’s the matter with you?”
Speaking of chores, I have accomplished … a bit. Work clothes and other assorted laundry is a-washin’ (reminds me, I have GOT to get more detergent) and rolled the big bin back up before most of my neighbors, so hmph!
Planted some seeds (nasturtium “Alaska mixed” plus cilantro & alyssum) in a big pot that just has a single clump of chives.
Monkey is rolling in catnip, and I’ve added a few more rows of sky blue to the meadows scene cross-stitch.
It’s my Blessed Day Off today, so it’s possible that some nappage may occur later. For now, I’m contemplating scrambled eggies.
Too often I pick something up, then turn around with it in my hands, realize there’s no place to put it, and put it down again. Lots of framed art behind the couch. Need to sort and digitize photographic prints, but at least I loaded about 3,000 digital photos up to the Amazon cloud. Digitizing is a tedious real-time job unless you have a machine that’s made for it, but those run about $500. Gave my daughter some hand-me-down silver spoons yesterday, but that’s like spitting in the ocean and expecting it to rise.
Heh. Ignored chores are kind of a point of contention around here. My wife is a compulsive chore-doer. Remember Monica on Friends? They modeled her after Mrs W - but toned her down a few notches first.
Our perfectly clean and tidy home is always “a mess,” and she must constantly be cleaning. Quarter-full trash cans get emptied. The litter box gets scooped mere seconds after a cat walks out of it (even if we’re right in the middle of a TV show or movie). She’ll ask me to do something, only to do it herself two minutes later if I haven’t started yet.
She used to get upset with me for not doing things that she never gives me a chance to do, but has come to realize that it’s her own doing. Likewise, her behavior used to annoy me more, but I’ve learned to accept it. Usually.
That said, there’s a desk and closet in the downstairs room that are all mine, and need to be cleaned out before we move in a few months. One of these weekends….
I did zookeeper internships for a few years in high school. If you’re going to see animals at a proper zoo or aquarium, please don’t feel guilty. These facilities serve several important functions. They educate people about animals they’ve never seen. They allow people to see animals and form emotional connections. They form worldwide breeding networks for endangered animals, which helps to form stable populations. Zoos and researchers learn a lot while keeping animals. When people see animals for themselves, they are much more likely to support conservation efforts.
I hope back to work isn’t too awful.
I need to head out in 5 minutes to take Beamette to school. She has a late start. My hair has turned into a massive wavy, frizzy mess, but it’s clean, so the world will just have to deal with it.
