ID the actress in this commercial?

Who’s the actress in this IPhone4 commercial? (Warning: The guy who posted this video added himself screaming fuck at the end of it. To demonstrate his Thurberesque wit I presume.)

My guess? Emmy Rossum.

Comment on the commercial itself: It actually surprised me that the commercial is about what it is about.

Normally using ambiguous words like that is set up for a fakeout at the end.

ETA: Emmy Rossum does look and sound like that.

Yeah, I can it. Emmy Rossum

I don’t think it is Emmy Rossum, even though it does look a little bit like her. But I have had a deep look around and can’t find anything definitive listing the cast. They are, supposedly, directed by Sam Mendes, though there are conflicting reports even on that.

That commercial annoys the hell out of me, mainly because I just can’t fathom telling such news over the phone. Now we’re not even gonna have private moments like that face-to-face. Also, the “you’re gonna be a dad” part bugs because it spoils what little subtlety/ambiguity in the ad. I feel like that line was put in by some suits afraid that dumb plebescite wouldn’t get their oh-so-smart dialogue.

(Sorry, I guess I woke up on the wrong side of the monitor today!)

Er, anyway, no, FWIW, I don’t think that’s Emmy. I’ve been noting her career since she was in Songcatcher, a charming little film about Appalachian folk music, and this doesn’t look enough like her to ping my Rossumeter.

Not to mention that I think including a recognizable actress – not that she’s hugely famous, but she was in Phantom of the Opera – would spoil the effect of the commercial. They’re going for everyday “real” and “emotional” moments. Presenting people with an already-known face would detract from that, IMHO.

Wait a second, he’s holding the phone in his left hand. Hey dad-to-be, YOU’RE DOING IT WRONG!

I agree that it seems unreal that a woman would tell her husband she’s pregnant over the phone. But it’s a phone commercial - what are you going to do?

But I had no problem with the “You’re going to be a father” line. Actually it seemed more authentic that way. It’s only in movies and TV that people coyly hint at pregnancies. In real life you tell somebody you’re pregnant by saying it, not by letting them catch you knitting a baby cap.

I was thinking she looks like a younger Jennifer Beals. If they decide to do an L Word flashback movie (L Word: The College Experimenting Years) we’ve got our Bette.

I just assumed that one of them had gone on a business trip and would be away from the other for a while when she found out.
