ID The Contents of My MP-3 Player (A)

Here is another “ID the Song Title” game based on the lyrics, this time consisting of songs currently being heard on my MP-3 player. Here are your clues:

  • Each song begins with the letter A
  • the songs are listed alphabetically, with the first seven songs all beginning with the word A (e.g., A Day in the Life)
  • generally, these are songs from the 60s through the 90s by well-known artists (but not necessarily number one hits)
  • the same artist may be the singer of more than one song listed
  • the name of the song will NOT be found in the lyrics I have listed

Good luck! (And tell me what you think of my playlist).

  1. “I bid farewell to old Kentucky, the place where I was born and raised”

  2. “I know you have doubts, but for God sake, don’t shut me out”

  3. “I made enough mony to buy Miami, but I pissed it away so fast”

  4. It scares me baby. Does it scare you too?"

  5. “Collecting sinners in an old tin cup”

  6. “And your heart beats so slow, through the wind and driving snow”

  7. “Cause he’s better than the rest, and his armsweat smells the best”

  8. “He freed a lot of people, but it seem the good they die young”

  9. “I seek to cure what’s deep inside, frightened of this thing that I’ve become”

  10. “I was hoping for replacement, when the sun burst through the sky”

  11. “It’s hard to say what it is I see in you”

  12. “Holy Moses on the mountain, high above the golden calf”

  13. “Out in Bethlehem they’re killing time, filling out forms, standing in line”

  14. “God its so painful that something that’s so close, is still so far out of reach”

  15. “Can’t you see, that I don’t know if its you or if its me”

  16. “What can I do? I’m sleeping in this bed alone”

  20. “They got a message from the action man”

  21. “I count your eyelashes, secretly”

  22. “Zebras are reactionaries, antelopes are missionaries”

  23. “Well, they blew up the Chicken Man in Philly last night”

  1. Abraham, Martin and John by Dion
  2. Allentown (I think) by Bruce Springsteen. (Allentown is now the third largest city in Pennsylvania, behind Philadelphia and Pittsburgh).
  3. Aqualung by Jethro Tull.
  4. At the Zoo by Simon and Garfunkel.
  1. (A) Man of Constant Sorrow - Soggy Bottom Boys
  2. A Matter of Trust - Billy Joel
  3. After the Gold Rush - Neil Young
  4. American Girl - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
  5. Angel - Aeorsmith
  6. Atlantic City - Bruce Springsteen
  1. A Man [or Maid] of Constant Sorrow; could be any of a zillion versions
  2. A Well Respected Man - The Kinks
  3. Ashes to Ashes - David Bowie

Songs are correct, but Bruce did not sing Allentown.

All songs so far are correct. Still need to identify the following:

3,4,5,6,9,11,12,15,17,18,21

Remember, they are in alphabetical order, so it should be getting easier.

3 - A Pirate Looks at 40 - Jimmy Buffet
9 - Africa - Toto

“Allentown” is a Billy Joel tune.

And 11 is “All For You” by Sister Hazel.

These are also correct.

That leaves:

4,5,6,11,12,15,17,18,21

Here are the complete list of lyrics, with those that have already been answered in BOLD

  1. Amy (or Aimee) . I know the song but I don’t know the band.

15 Pure Prairie League - Amie

Damn, beaten but I got the band. Is he asking a question though? “and can you see that I don’t know if it’s you of if it’s me?”

All For You - Sister Hazel

17 - Annie Get Your Gun, and 18 - Another Nail for My Heart, both by Squeeze!

oh yeah. 6 - A Sort of Homecoming, U2!

Time for another update, based on the additional correct answers:

Here are a couple of hints for #s 4 and 5, which are NOT top-40 hits. #4 is by Tom Petty and #5 is by Supertramp. Remember, each song left begins with the word A.

4 - A Sapbox Opera - Suertramp
