Stranger things have happened on this board, so pleeeeease help me!
I can’t think of the words or the tune. It was a popular 80s song, female singer, a la Berlin or Laura Branigan. I’m pretty sure the chorus had a call and answer style. I think in the video the woman had either big pink hair or maybe a poofy pink skirt, and I can visualize her on a pier or outside a warehouse. Maybe with a lot of guys around?
I’m trying so hard to think of any lyrics or tune. AAaaaahhhhh this is bugging me!
Everytime I try to think of the song, I get “No more words” or “Hit me with your best shot” in my head.
T’Pau’s “Heart and Soul”? Not really a call and response style, but there’s spoken word lyrics and then the chorus. A quick search didn’t get me any pics, but maybe this will help anyway.
Was it “Gloria” by (I think) Laura Brannigan? That takes place on a boat or barge, and has a call/response format. No pink hair though. (Now that I think about it, she might HAVE been wearing a poufy pink skirt.)
Thank you for the help! As it turns out, I figured out what song it was before I even checked the thread today, lol. It’s “Catch Me I’m Falling”. Man that was killing me!
But I don’t remember who sang it, so I could still use some help there.
The OP description sounds like “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper. Pink hair. Check. Call and response. Check. Blue collar guys. Check.
And just to throw out another 80’s hit (the video for which featured a pink dress, but which does not otherwise meet the OP description) there’s “They Don’t Know” by Tracy Ullman.
Yo, people, the question has been answered. “Catch Me I’m Falling” by Pretty Poison. From the soundtrack of the goofy Jon Cryer flick “Hiding Out” from 1986. Lead singer of Pretty Poison had huge bottle red hair and had a fondness for strapless bright pink dresses with poofy peplums and opera-length gloves.
The 80s were such a fashion nightmare!
Tis already established that this isn’t correct, but moreover, the only video I’ve ever seen for “Gloria” was Laura Branigan in a black sequined leotard with a belt, black tights and black heels standing nearly still on a riser underneath a couple of disco balls. It looked like it was filmed in a rented nightclub with all the lights on. Totally boring and stilted, even by the standards of the day.
