ID this book.

Fiction. Likely publish in the sixties or seventies.

The plot revolves around an Indian (Native American) guy who is a bronco (or maybe bull?) rider in rodeos. He’s ridiculously good, and the book repeatedly emphasizes that he never gets thrown but instead rides the horse until he breaks it - not simply hopping off after eight seconds. It was sort of a YA book before that was a real category.

When the Legends Die, sounds like. I read it in high school.
