ID this old movie (Bette Davis, maybe?)

The opening of the video for Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time” features a short clip from an old movie. I believe Bette Davis is the female lead.

Dialogue:

Male lead: I came to say goodbye.

Female lead: And why, Boris, why?

Male lead: I’ve made up my mind. I’m going away.

Female lead: Then I shall be alone.

Male lead: That journey to the desert you’ve spoken of-- you will take it alone?

Female lead: What else can I do?

Male lead: Once, you said to me that peace and happiness might be found there. You gave me hope, and now-- now, we have to say goodbye.

Female lead: …Goodbye.

So what movie is that?

It’s Marlene Dietrich and Charles Boyer in Garden of Allah.

I wasn’t sure if that was Dietrich or Garbo, but I knew that was Charles Boyer, so I went to IMDB and looked for a movie where he played a character named Boris.

Ah. Thanks for the reasearch and the answer, AuntiePam.

(I hate to let bits of trivia like that elude me.)

Yeah, what **AuntiePam **said.

But I can understand how you’d confuse Bette Davis with Charles Boyer.

“Don’t come viss me to ze cazbah…what a DUMP!”

“When I spend 8 bucks on a dame, I don’t just go home with the morning paper, y’know what I mean?” *

“Um. Goodbye?”

*While we’re on Bette Davis movies.

Ha, I just stumbled on this thread after googling “I’ve made up my mind. I’m going away”, plus “Bette Davis”.
