ID this plant? 2 pics! (climbing, potted, dainty foliage)

Not really a houseplant, since it prefers to be outside. Little else known about it … asking for a friend.

Anyone seen this before or know what it is?

It doesn’t have looping tendrils, right?

Could be campsis foliage, or wisteria foliage.

Could even be a kind of clematis. Those have very different leaves, but some species look like the pics.

Nope, no tendrils. It has a loose climbing habit but doesn’t grasp tightly, and in fact is zip-tied to the post. I’d liken it to tomatoes - they WANT to climb but end up sprawling, bless their little nightshade hearts.

It’s reminding me of trumpet vine, god help your friend.

Campsis radicans attracts hummingbirds. I have them at my jungle five acres, and they are not invasive. They don’t do terribly well uncared for.

It looks to me like Radermachera sinica, also known as China Doll. It’s generally sold as a houseplant, but I could see it preferring the outdoors in Texas, as long as it doesn’t freeze.

That one gets my vote as well. It’s a ubiquitous houseplant whose popularity puzzles me, since it’s plain-looking and doesn’t flower (indoors, anyway).

It’s peculiar that it’s growing sideways…
