Idea for a Firefly video game?

I saw this thread in Cafe Society, and it struck me that a Firefly video game could be very cool, use the universe in an interesting way, without stomping all over the show or adding new, but not necessarily good, material.

The idea would be to play as your own trader, shuttling from planet to planet trying to make a profit,m getting involved in various hi-jinks along the way. There would be different npc’s offering jobs (with varying consequences) along the way, you could use randomly-generated maps for some planetary terrain for missions, and have some nice quest hubs to give local flavor in different cities.

It also has the advantage of using some established themes from the show: instead of one character,m you get an entire crew, and can focus on the missions that use that character (or instead use the 98-lbs-if-soaking-wet pilot in the boxing club if that’s your idea of fun). Alternative, you could just play the Captain and develop him or her your way and get backup from your crew, with maybe a minigame to cross empty space using less fuel, quietly, or to find neat stuff like wrecks or whatever.

You could use the Firefly cast as quest-givers, allies, or rivals - or all three at different points.

Dunno if that sounds interesting to anyone else.
Edit:

Well, turns out there are plans for an mmo, although it remains rather speculative and I’m not sure that’s actually the best option.

The MMO is likely vaporware, but for the same reason any other Firefly video games likely won’t be made. Fox are idiots who don’t know how to manage anything Firefly-related. They killed the show by barely promoting it and misleading promoting it when they did, and airing shows out of order to confuse the crap out of viewers, and now they’re ruining the MMO. I doubt a video game of any sort will ever come, not unless Fox sells the rights to someone else.

There are already space-based MMOs where you trade stuff, like Eve or Elite Dangerous. Slapping a Firefly skin on it isn’t enough to crack into that market with a realistic hope of success.
