In about a month I’m celebrating a milestone birthday, and it happens to be my sister’s birthday too (same day two years apart). We’ve kind of decided to go “all out” meaning cost will not really be a limiting factor as it usually would be.
Dinner, drinks over some extended period, and maybe a hotel room at the end of the night is the basic plan. I’d love to get ideas from you guys. It just occurred to me that since a hotel may be involved, I may employ the services of a concierge or two, but I want input from you folks just as much.
I’m really flexible with plans, but my sister rightly points out that there at least needs to be one to start off with. I want to eat at Rodizio because I love meat and would never go there due to expense at another time. We could also go to M or any of the nice German Village places. For drinks the first place that comes to mind is the tiki bar near the Hills Market, I don’t know the downtown area bars well. I’ve also never stayed at a hotel downtown, so any advice there would be golden. Hitting the Funny Bone is another idea I like.
Oh, I also have no idea how many people will be with us at any given time, but there will be several. I await your suggestions with great anticipation.
Rodizo is excellent but while nice, I wouldn’t consider it fine dining. Plus, a meal there is usually enough that you aren’t moving anywhere quickly afterwards. If you want to try them but want to save on cost, try them for a weekday lunch or weekend brunch. Same experience, lower cost.
Anyhoo, if you are looking for nice downtown hotels try either the new Hilton or the brand new Le Meriden. The Lofts is also nice.
I can’t help much on drinks but you might want to line up the festivities with either the gallery hop in the Short North or the Moonlight Market on Gay St. But you will be getting into September, so check the football schedule and plan accordingly or you may find things more crowded than expected. But if you live in Columbus you know that.
