Identify a 60s/70s songs - Help me Obi Dope Kenobi!

My dad use to listen to this psychedelic group (perhaps space rock) group. I think it started with a C, but I could be very wrong. Also, I think they were British based on my recollection of the accents, but not certain.

The most memorable song I can recall has an ongoing rising drone pitch like going on a trip. One of the lines is like “Through stardust, and ‘something’ again”. The album cover for that song was yellow and oranges, and psychedelic in style.

Can you identify this group/band, and/or the song? (if you identify the song I can find the band, and if you identify the band I can find the song)

Oh and they had somebody that played flute. Because my dad wanted me to learn that song. It was not Jethro Tull.

Woodstock.

It is the Moody Blues!!!

Be it sight, sound, smell, or touch
There’s something
Inside that we need so much
The sight of a touch, or the scent of a sound
Or the strength of an oak with roots deep in the ground
The wonder of flowers to be covered and then to burst up
Thru tarmac, to the sun again
Or to fly to the sun without burning a wing
To lie in a meadow and hear the grass sing
To have all these things in our memories hoard
And to use them
To help us
To find

(tarmac not stardust)

I found it using ChatGPT. It guessed Pink Floyd, then Jethro Tull, and then the Moody Blues. Pretty cool!

Yep. Opening cut on In Search of the Lost Chord

On Edit: Never mind. Better Google Fu above.

The song ‘Woodstock’ by Crosby, Stills and Nash has the line,

We are stardust
We are golden
And we’ve got to get ourselves
Back to the garden

Then there’s ‘Stardust’ by Hoagy Carmichael, made more famous by Willie Nelson. and a band called “Neon Dreams” has a song called “Stardust”.

That’s all I could find.

Did you know it from my weak description? If so, that’s impressive!

Oh man, I’m so happy listening to this again. Major nostalgia.

I was a big Moody Blues fan back in the day. That one’s etched deep enough in my brain that I knew it instantly.

Wow. Incredible! Thanks a lot, because you would have solved it, and I really need to listen to this right now.

Now I’ve got Ride My See Saw as an ear worm …

The album cover must be shown, becasue its cool as hell thats why.

And no, that is not Gerald Ford!

By Joni Mitchell. I always thought Bad Company stole the intro for their song “Bad Company”.

Credit where due. The song was actually written by Joni Mitchell.

Good point. All credit to Joni. The CS&Y one is probably the one everyone knows, though.

While we’re in the neighborhood, Wooden Ships co-written by Paul Kantner was also released by the Jefferson Airplane.

FWIW, your description was good enough that it would have been my first guess.

That’s amazing!

Although, the OP’s description of the album cover (“yellow and oranges, and psychedelic in style”) made me think of XTC’s Oranges and Lemons album.
