This has been buggin for quite some while, and it is entirely possible that I have conflated two or three movies as one.
The primary plot I recall seemed to have to do with a woman harboring/hiding a man in the shed, a man, I think, who had appeared out of nowhere, perhaps on the beach, possibly after a shipwreck. It takes place in a small town on the Irish coast (seemed like the east coast to me). The scene that sticks in my head is a church service, in which the camera slowly pans across the seated parishoners until it reaches the back of the church, whereupon the confessional bursts forth with the priest chasing the man out the door shouting, “Get out of this church and don’t come back until you stop doing that!”
The cast was largely people whom I think were not particularly well known outside of Ireland, but with possibly one fairly famous actor – I had thought Stephen Rea, but there seems to be nothing of the sort in his catalog.
That reminds me of Ladies in Lavender; woman (actually two sisters) find man washed ashore after shipwreck. Don’t remember the bit about the church service and it was set in Cornwall, not Ireland.
