Back then HBO used to play a lot of obscure stuff in between their movies. One was a short British film, maybe ten minutes long. It starts with a couple parking their car and leaving. Then a uniformed cop walks by and starts writing a parking ticket. As he tries to write the ticket, for some reason his uniform keeps getting caught on parts of the car and tearing off. This happens again and again, first his sleeves, then his pant legs etc. All the time this happens he just mumbles disgruntled comments under his breath. Eventually a female cop comes by and reassures the half-undressed cop that they’ll take care of this car’s owner and leads him away, back to the station to get him a new uniform. Then the car’s owners reappear, they’re baffled by all the pieces of clothing laying around, they remove them from their car rather annoyed, get in and drive away (I don’t think they noticed or cared about the parking ticket left on it).
Anyone remember this? If so, what the hell was the point?! HBO showed this several times as a ‘Comedy Short’ but for the life of me I couldn’t ‘get’ it. It made no sense, it wasn’t funny, if it had been done in B&W without dialog and with haunting moaning dubbed in it would have looked like a Bergman film about the futility of life or something!
