Identify this C.J. Cherryh book?

I had a Cherryh book in the early 1980s, but never finished it, and now can’t find it. The story took place on a space station, IIRC, and the protagonist (don’t even remember if it was a man or a woman) had to get off the station for some reason, but couldn’t. There was a warship from Earth involved, and I do remember that it was named the Norway. Don’t remember much else.

Thanks for your help.

Merchanter’s Luck?

Wikipedia’s page on her has what looks like a complete bibliography. Take a look, see if anything rings a bell. I want to say that you’re thinking of Downbelow Station, but I could be wrong.

It was Downbelow Station. The Norway was one of Maziani’s ships. Maziani and his ships had been the military arm of the Alliance that has either gone independent or rogue, depending on whom is telling the story. They’ve become the third belligerant in the Union vs. Alliance war. This is a great book in a great series.

I’m pretty sure the Downbelow Station votes are right. And second it being really good, both book and series (or set of interconnected books, or whatever, it’s not exactly a series).

Of course, it’s not, my very favorite Cherryh series.

Let me guess…the Chanur books?

Could be Cyteen. Or Foreigner. Or, you know, any series she’s every published because she’s just that damned good…

I need more Cherryh. All I’ve got now is the Foreigner series, and a few random Cyteen.

I think my favourite is Exile’s Gate, but I can’t think of any of hers that I haven’t liked.

That’s right!!!

You figured it out from my username, didn’t you.

It’s not Cyteen, and it’s definitely not Foreigner. It’s in the same universe as Cyteen, for certain. Norway itself is involved in a number of books in that group. I still think DS is the best candidate.

Bren Cameron, I’m embarrassed that I didn’t recognize your user name. I agree that what the world need’s now is more C.J. Cherryh, though I don’t find her fantasy novels as compelling as her SF. I try to wait to for all volumes of a series to be available, ever since having to wait for 7 years between volumes 2 and 3 of the Riverworld books by Farmer, but she’s making it difficult having to wait between Foreigner series volumes.

The Chanur books are great. I devour with great enthusiasm any books that are written about the Union-Alliance War and the Merchanter/Station universe. I keep meaning to go back and read the earlier books. Maybe this thread will be the inspiration I need to do it.
