Identify this Christian movie from the 80s

So I was just reminded of this movie I saw as a kid and can’t remember the name, which is now bugging me.

It’s a Christian movie from the 80s (I think either 1982 or 1987 but I could be wrong). American. The sort of straight-to-video movie you would only find in Christian bookstores. I’m pretty sure the word ‘home’ appears somewhere in the title. It’s about this kid, maybe about 10 years old, plays Little League and is really good at drawing. He draws a picture of himself skidding into home base. His grandfather stays with the family for a while and is always putting down his father (whose name is Jim), telling the kids stories about stupid things Jim did as a kid. One story is that when Jim was a kid he went around telling everybody he saw a UFO that was big and yellow and had flashing lights - it turned out to be a school bus.

The kid struggles with peer pressure a bit and some friends convince him to attempt to break a tiger out of the zoo. I think they also stole a python from the school science lab that went slithering all over the school.

Towards the end, the kid is chasing his dog through the house and ends up running straight through a glass door and dies in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. The rest of the movie is the family dealing with his death and trusting God had his reasons for taking their son, etc.

Anyone know it?

Solved. Typically, the title occurs to me after I post this.

Home Safe

I’ve seen a lot of OK-to-bad Christian films in my day but I missed that one & I’m kinda glad. I see from the IMDB entry that it was made by the same company that did the THIEF IN THE NIGHT series of Rapture-Tribulation films. Now I actually enjoy those- still!

The various descriptions of the movie “Home Safe” on the net make absolutely no mention of the kid dying, but they warn the snake could be “scary”.
